E53 and Tyre pressure warning.

Just looking for some input folks. I was looking to get the tyre pressure warning coded out, would this do it?

Maybe you can....but i'd have to ask why?

On my facelift the warning has never ever been wrong, fussy maybe but never wrong that the tyres are under inflated. Why would you code out a safety item?

Is this on the car you're trying to sell by the way?

I don't have one of those scanner things but I must get one some time...if only to find out why the PDC drives me mad

the m3 i think is missing the wheel sensor and im not trying to sell and have no use for it so want to code it out

it was the OP I was actually asking and I couldn't for the life of me see why anyone would want to do that?

MOT failure under Section 4.1 as well.  If fitted it must work and inoperative warning lights or a fault indication will cause an immediate fail.  As the car has it fitted at build you need to fix it by the looks of things.

Thought that only applied after a certain age of the car? Mine has passed its MOT recently with the alarm merrily flashing away.

That's the thing with the MoT.  Some go 'by the book' whilst others ignore it.  I only quoted what is says in the current manual.  Perhaps they're still arguing about what's in and what's out for now?  I know the EU wants to make it a lot tougher from 2015.

No dummy spat mate, just an observation. Would have been written quite differently if the dummy had been bouncing down the carpet 

The batteries are now dead on the wheels and will cost (I've been told) about £200 a corner to replace them all. Why bother when you can check the pressures on a weekly or frequent basis, which I do anyway.

The other reason I'm trying to get this sorted soon is I was thinking about trading it in.
If the tyre pressure warning comes up, they will be offering less.

Any of these sensors on Fleabay any good to you?  Some used, some new.

You obviously mean the early sensors which worked on battery - later sensors operate on rolling diameter of the tyres.  I know the early ones cause issues and are a ridiculous price to repair as you have found. It must be possible to code them out with the scanner - certainly worth a punt on the scanner as its not expensive and if you want to sell it on, will always find a buyer for it on the forums.

I would give it a go, from what I have heard the early sensors are more trouble than they are worth anyway and did trigger false alerts.

You could also try a motor factor for a new sensor.

They have recently been introduced at a fraction of the price of main dealers.

Garages / Tyre centres You can even buy repair kits for them. (seals, valves etc), so might be a cheaper fix than you think.
