Re: Mini one any good ?
Best thing I can offer is suggest he has a look at the Mini Owners Forum at http://www.mini2.com/
It's pretty good and like this forum there's a lot of detail, comment and advice about all the models.....
Being a 'BMW' in all but name, spares can be silly money.

Re: Mini one any good ?
My mother in law had a cooper s convertible.
The only problem was airbag light as 2 door and moving seats back and forth set off the airbag, which I believe is a known prob and def worth checking as will cost to reset each time and if no done the airbags don't work.
Other than that reliable although run flat tyre bit hard and costly.

Re: Mini one any good ?
My dad had a couple of Cooper's and between them an 'S' before doing the pensioner thing and buying a Yaris.
The first Cooper was one of the first and had an issue with pulling to the left (as did many early ones) but once sorted under warranty was trouble free for the couple of years or so he had it.
Cooper S less so, had clutch issues. He got bored with repeated attempts to fix and gave up. Then modded it loads
Finally had the later shape Cooper but after about 18 months wanted a change for something practical so went to his current car.

People buy horsepower but drive torque!
Re: Mini one any good ?
IMO that's not a strong budget to source a decent BMW Mini not wanting.........not impossible but care needed.
Watch out for gearbox issues on the pre 2004 facelift as it had the Midland Box.
As with any used purchase budget extra to allow for sorting post purchase niggles.
If £2250 is max budget maybe consider a Lupo with spare cash to address possible issues later.

Re: Mini one any good ?
Gearbox issues was going to be my shout too, on the older high mileage cars this seems a pretty regular issue.
