Well this car officially takes the p!ss now

Part arrived this morning....handy guides in hand I made a start

(thanks for the links)

Struggled with the wing/bumper attachment and may have broke one of the clips....damn
Easy to see how it works when it's off...not so when it's one. Two slots about 10mm wide that you cant see in the bottom bumper...that fingers ( as part of a moulding) hook upwards into. Yes you must poke something in to the holes to shove the fingers down but it aint easy when trying not to damage the wing.....result....snapped 1 of the fingers.

ANYHOW

Before I tried to replace I made sure the vehicle was away from objects in anticipation that when replaced but not bolted up I could test the success when the bumper was just hung back on

Other half wafts arm in front and sure enough the centres and nearside corner worked. NOT a peep out of the offside corner...must have been completely dead

Off with the bumper and eventually (fog light cables restricting movement) get corner one out. Now loose I figure out how the cable comes off (handy having the new one) as its covered in grubby dust.

New one fits perfect...3 pins and all.....hoooooorah...£20 might not be wasted
Pushes it into hole and hangs bumper loosely back in position.
Test..................BRILLIANT......beeps as it should do. Intermitant to solid......coffee as a reward for crawling about.

Takes out on road.....ok....parks up.
2 hrs later....gets in....puts it into reverse BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP SOLID TONE.....FFFFFFFS :headbang:

Wouldn't clear till I either pressed button or drove off.

Pulls into chippy laybye on way home. Presses button....no tone as one would expect with nowt near....did go off when someone walked past. Started engine.....drove home onto drive.....tempted by the button BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP SOLID TONE

Damn

Just been out and all are clicking....and the offside one I replaced click nice and loud now (the old one was faint) and it works ok

WTF is going on with this intermittent fault......Is it the control BOX in the boot, a wiring fault....WITS end

????????

Mines been doing the same and realised today that the front number plate has come unstuck one side and that's been making the sensors continually go off! Stuck it back and perfect :)

you need to do a live test on then. I used BMW DIS to check my mates PDC's on his E65. ALL front sensors ticked the same. When testing all 4 sensors via the software it showed (although all sensors were free of obstacles) that one sensor was showing the normal range (225cm) and that 3 sensors were showing as though they were only 20cm from an obstacle when they werent. So these sensors arent detected as faulty by the car however they are as they are 'incorrectly' detecting obstacles when there arent any. hence no fault codes as they are functioning, just not correctly. HOpe this helps.

Hi  Y13HYA  when I  connect  my 1.4.0 scanner it showed no faults , last year when I had a problem continuous tone
The scanner showed the rear o/s sensor faulty, changed it job done ,
Can I turn off the front sensors with my scanner so i can then eliminate them , I  have checked the connections to the control box in the boot and they are all good and dry, I can't find any settings with my scanner to check the range,

As mentioned above, turn front off. However the fault code will only show when your sensor is fully dead. IF it is still functioning (sending a signal like yours is - even ifits an incorrect one) then this will NOT show a fault. You can only diagnose via a live diagnostic by taking the live readings off each sensor using the likes of INPA or DIS.

Can DIS (or indeed INPA) be used with the BMW Scanner 1.4.0 hardware interface?

u need a cable like this. i've bought that, comes highly recommended, although i've just not had the time to play with it yet (u'll know when i post saying the car is wiped out!  :P )

i also have the scanner cable which is different to this, which i'm familiar with...
