3.0i 2001 x5 instrument panel lights up like xmas tree

hi all I have owned this for over a week now and I have dsc, abs and brake lights illuminated aswell as air bag..
I ran through inpa and dis on the dsc module and got:
5A brief power interruption
DSC actively switched
no ABS control
stop-light switch not activated
no ASC control
no DSC control
brake booster: passive
no ACC control
no HDC control
vehicle speed        2
fault currently present          255

read air bag faults and got

ignition circuit zk8/ head airbag(its) left
resistance too large
error not sporadic

ignition circuit zk10/ safetybattery switch 1
resistance too large
error not sporadic

also in LWS5_1B

I got
11 wrong LWS-ID
error frequency :11
static error
error code: 0B 2B B3

If I can be honest I got no clue wat it all means lol the lights weren't there when I purchased car privately but only when I took cluster out to repair lcd I noticed the warning lights taped over with black tape :(

oh and the instrument cluster has a different vin stored than of the car lol

I would check the battery voltage, any less than 12 volts is a no no. These cars are very sensitive to battery condition.
It sounds as though the previous owner has tried to fix the problem by changing the binnacle, but has failed.
Does the mileage match up with the service and MOT records ?
There are some unscrupulous people about, I for one could never sell a car with a known fault, I read on another forum this week that one of the members was told by the garage that his suspension needed a grand spending on it so he " Got shut " only for some unsuspecting new owner to cop for the expense.
The forum this week is riddled with new owners, who innocently have bought such cars.
The excitement of getting a new car can be short lived, when these problems rear there heads.

You do still have some legal protection even though it was a private sale.

It is a criminal offence to sell a car not in a roadworthy condition, and if the warning lights are taped over then it's not roadworthy.  Having an MOT ticket from a few weeks back does not mean it's roadworthy today.....so you are within your rights to take it back and demand your money back.  The seller might deny it, but warning lights are part of the MOT and have been since Jan 2012 so there's no excuse there.

Also, the seller might be a dealer masquerading as a private seller - his/her name should be in the V5.  If the seller is actually a trader then that's another criminal offence.  And you then have full rights under the Sale of Goods Act.

It might be a simple fix, but it doesn't sound like it.  There are a number of positive connections to the battery, one has a thin wire and you need to check whether or not this is also connected.  It may have been left off by accident.  Be careful working with the positive cables and ALWAYS disconnect the negative first as the X5 has an explosive disconnect device (which fires in the event of a crash) built in at the battery end so beware!!

ive checked the battery on the obc hidden functions and it reads 11.4 when engine off and ranges from 11.4 to highest 13.2 with enging running through rev range........
ive checked mileage with last mot and is right to that but was sold with no service record as was serviced by family the clocks do have the manipulation dot but I guess that's probably to do with its not the correct clocks for the car and needs the cars vin coded to them!! can this be done through inpa or dis ??

yes the sellers name and address is on log book and also he has owned since start 2010 he denied knowledge of the abs 3 lights but told me about airbag light which wasn't covered in tape....

The ABS lights missing would have been an MOT fail under Section 3.4.1.  You certainly need the INPA, DIS or possibly the GT1 software to pair it all up again.  The airbag comes under Section 5.4.1 and is another failure, so the car isn't roadworthy.  Given both of these requirements have been in place since Jan 1st last year, either everything worked at the MOT time, or it's dodgy, or IMHO the previous owner knew exactly what is wrong and took steps to disguise it, especially as it was theirs from 2010.

Might be worth seeing if you can get any previous MOT mileage data, or even Dealer data.  Someone obviously knew enough to be able to take it apart and put tape in there!!

If it were me I would be demanding my money back and telling the previous owner to come and get the car....or face the music.

is there any tuts on how to pair the modules to the car at all ?
I have been trying to contact the guy but everything now is being ignored, ive threatened legal action but I just haven't the funds to get solicitors involved :O(

If you have a good Indy locally, or if not then a BMW dealer might be your need.  I'm sure I read somewhere that the mileage is recorded in a couple of places too.

Have you got legal cover on your house insurance?  If so they might help.  The Seller obviously knows they've been rumbled.
