self induced SLS inactive error?

Post by biggeek » Mon Apr 15, 2013 7:20 pm

Hello

Last weekend I changed both lower front control arms and droplinks which went ok apart from the normal issues of being a total idiot.

All was going great until i got the dreaded sls inactive on the dash.

I notice that my passenger side is riding 1/2" to an 1" higher than the drivers side which means a noticeable lean.

I torqued everything to spec under load(jack under ball joint) but I don't know if I did something wrong.

I checked the ride height sensor as best as I could and loosened the nut a bit as I thought I may have overtighten this and this was restricting movement but no joy after a few minutes of riding i get the error back.

I get a can bus error from the bmw scanner. I can clear the code and the car raises and lowers. I noticed it seems to take very long for the indicator light to stop flashing even though the car moves up quickly.

I also get the low pressure symbol turning amber.

I have not noticed any sagging or anything like that. I think(hoping) that it is something I have done.

I have noticed there is a constant motor sound coming from the front passengers side( the highest side)
uploaded a short video. http://youtu.be/-w0_TZk9dzQ

More importantly I have to do a 70 mile round trip tomorrow and I don't want to cause more damage

I tried to get the sensor off today but it was stuck on pretty tight. I noticed the driver side has got some electrical tape on the back of the sensor. I guess I could get another sensor and replace.

Any help is really appreciated?
