Remapping, is it really worth it????

I know there are a lot of remap topics on here but without trolling through them all, would the masses here actually recommend having it done?

I am toying with the idea of going for an economic remap. I'm not interested in any kind of power upgrade or loss of for that matter. Would just like to save a few quid when it comes to fuel. A friend of mine here in Dundee has offered to do it for £200 but I'm not sure if I will see that much of a difference or if I will just end up using the right foot that little more!!  >:D

hi I would say so. I've had several cars do e and definitely improved the driveability and response of those cars.

Lots of people have had their cars remapped by Jason on here.

Have a look for Jason at Bw chiptune he wil let you know what is possible.

It would take a lot of miles to repay a remap if solely based on MPG savings, its the better drivability and torque that would make me go for a remap, that's my thoughts, but mines standard, and I do low mileage.

With a remap the car behaves how you'd 'wish' it should. Forget the mpg, it's the way it drives (no way you're going to get that good a gain on fuel). Throttle response is soooo much better, torque goes up, so it pulls better (and quicker in the rev range). That works hand-in-hand with the gearbox and the gear selection.

It's a no brainer to get done (go 50-50 on fuel and power). I would recommend Jason, only because of how my car was transformed. He can send you his console tool if you want a map from him, but do your research and get to know your car first before taking the plunge.

Any cars I've had mapped I've been pleased with, a far better drive. As for remapping for fuel economy alone it's a waste of money IMO. It'd take a long time to recoup the outlay through your mpg.

Firstly, echo what everyone else has said about driveability, torque, likely economy considerations.

I'd only get my car mapped by someone who had done loads of them on my model/engine and is well aware of all issues to be aware of, both pre-existing and potential. If your mate falls into this category, and you'll have confidence to trust your P&J in his hands, go for it.

Another thing to think about is that you mentioned, in another thread, how you changed insurers because of costs associated with trackers etc; in the process, you missed out an a year's NCB. You'll need to consider insurance as an issue again as they will most probably load it up (quite massively in some cases) or, indeed, may flatly refuse to cover you. Any arguments about it being primarily for economy will, undoubtedly, fall on deaf ears.

Everything Huck has said here is spot on I couldn't have worded better myself although I would have tried obviously. Nice  to have an X6 driver on here that actually talks sense at last !!!

To the OP - typical scot trying to save some money, and £200 sounds too cheap anyway !

Thanks for all the replies. I would only get it done if I was gonna see a difference in MPG to be honest. £200 is cheap but its from a mate who owns his own mobile tune up company, named, oddly enough, Tune-Up Services. I would certainly trust him with the job. I didnt know about the insurance issue though.

Yes it would have to be declared which will result in higher premium meaning your chances of making a saving I reduced further !
