Purchased a roof box and set of Whisperbars for X3. Nice fit and a Quieter ride than standard bars.

Re: Roof Bars
Thanks for posting - it looks like a smart set-up. I had some standard Thule bars on my E60 and they made a terrible racket even at low speeds (reminds me that I could sell them, now I've got rid of the car). I thought about roof boxing the X5 when we go camping, but I think it's too high for me at 5 11) so I'll pull a trailer instead.
Friends of mine are very happy with their Thule Easy Box, which sits on a towbar mounted bike carrier. Looks unusual but seems effective.

Nice additions. Never realised standard bars made so much noise.
Re: Roof Bars
My roof bars are OEM and with the right fittings for the box they're not what I'd call noisy - but those do look good.

I looked at the easy box and realy liked it but Her indoors would not let me spend the extra on fitting a towbar.

Square bars, sticking out bars past bodywork, 60-70-80mph = wind noise and wind whistle,
