I'm about 12 months away from having to choose my next car and already there's too much choice!

The 3 GT and 4 series (hopefully xdrive versions will be available) are tempting if I do downsize from the X5.
I agree. I'm not so keen on the GT as I don't really need the space but a 430d xdrive could be great!
Agreed. That would be an ideal car or 330xd touring.

It's fair to say that you don't like or see the point of the X6. Yet here it is selling well and loved by many.

I'm like an ex-smoker, what I've had or done is the past and it is time to move on to better things

I liked my X5 for what it was and I had to get it out of my system which I've now done and I won't buy another 4x4 again unless I win the lottery at which point a new FFRR would be on my drive because a) I could and b) there would be a lot of exciting stuff on there too.

I just think X5s and the like are all over sized and pointless

What does one off over a 4 wheel drive (if they offered it) 5 series? They don't have much more useful space they are more difficult to park, slower and use more fuel.

You can't say that either the X5 or 6 is a good looking car. I never actually liked the look of mine but it WAS the best driversSUV at the time.

Now this X4 does look very nice and if it is a sensible size then it is a good compromise, I'm not sure about the 4 coupe yet, I love the 6GC. I stick to my guns about the 3GT though

Personally I like the higher driving position. I would also think they're are safety benefits of being in a x5 compared to 5 series depending on the type of incident.

I loved the engine in my wife's old 335d but didn't like being so low to the ground - even compared to other saloons.

Aside from Bluewater, I haven't been in a car park with sensible sized bays for all but the smallest of cars! If I don't have the kids, I just find an end of row space which I would probably do anyway to avoid some numpty whacking their car door into mine!

Agree with the 6GC though. Nice looking car but a friend who has one struggles with the length of it when parking.

Even though I'm (almost) used to your, erm, direct manner, you still surprise me. I love the look of the X6 and think the X5 is a great looking car. Just because you've moved on to 'better things', doesn't mean most of us here - primarily X drivers (funny that) think our cars are ugly or pointless.

Some ex-smokers have also been known to mildly irritating and ridiculously smug at times too...

I still love the look of the X6, and I'm hoping this X4 concept is a watered down neXt 6, which is meant to be edgy and more aggressive...

Ha ha, you are getting there

What you don't know that the old school will is that I had a new Lincoln navigator for 2 years in 2010 at my place in Boston. That was a pile shit too but I've ticked that box too!

So then in summary..........535dboy is allegedly a mildly irritating, smug self confessed old smoker with more than a passing interest in sh*t boxes.

Harsh........ that's what I say ;)

If it as good looking as the concept and the 3.0 twin turbo engine is available then I'll be having one of these!

You can guarantee they will have the twin turbo in the X4.

No idea but open to the idea of same some time before Christmas ;)  .........I happen to know a friendly Curry House over this way...food is okay & staff have a sense of humour too.

Pvr is alive & has been in contact......He claims to be genuinely very busy albeit he should be back in the not too distant future. If this does not happen I will log in using his details and pretend to be him.....Perhaps I could post random brief insults at people for old times sake :)

Oh I don't know, I think he's doing very well.  I was thinking of recommending a name change to 2 amp.  ie. a very short fuse!  :P
