Cleaning the E53

Just wanted to no is there anybody on here who's a bit OCD with there cars I mean cleaning wise I like to maintain the x5 to a certain standard eg clean once a week that's hoovering inside and then shampoo down and dry. However I'm now thinking to myself it's about time I clayed, then polish and waxed anybody else on here done this already and has anybody machine polished there car ???

yes I have washed 2 bucket method then dried car.

then clayed it-amazing how much comes off,

then polished car etc. the roof is always tricky but a smll platform helps

Cleaned wheels and sealed with poorboys wheel sealant

Definitely worth it. Waiting for slightly warmer weather to machine polish it when I can spen a day on it.

How long did it take you to clay ?

Have you got any pictures?

Was it a x5 you drive?

Plus what machine do you have?

I can't wait to machine my x5 when the weather gets better :-[ I use a da with Scholl polishes, they are easy to use and give excellent results. Can anyone recommend a wax for silver?

It's not - one bucket for the mitt with soapy water, the other with clean water to wash the mitt once it's been on the car to rinse (every time btw)!

Never stops the swirl marks but helps keep them away for longer.

Stop using a sponge.

And the buckets have a grit guard in the bottom so you don't collect anything off the bottom of the bucket .

I've just bought a lambswool mitt from i4-detail . £13
Much softer than sponges .

Also don't use chamoix leathers anymore either , use super-soft micro-fibre towels .

Good point - if you dry afterwards. But some have invested in the vessel that reduces all spots of hard water, so no need to dry.

I'm lucky with our rainwater out of the butt - no marks. But have to confess to still drying. But I have no worries in hot, direct sunlight (not that we have any)! ::)

Thanks. Just for anyones info, I was visiting family over Easter, got talking about cars and my Father in Law told me he had just bought a product called Bodyshield Pro. Spray on, rub in with microfibre cloth then use a clean one to buff up. The makers claim you can use it on a dirty car. Mine had been washed the day before and only had a little dirt on it. It came up great and only took the two of us half an hour. Don't think I would use it if the car was really dirty, afraid of scratches! Really good finish.

I'm a bit scared of the no water things but I'm an absolute convert to Optimum No Rinse. Basically, throws a lot of what us detailed have learned, out of the window.

One bucket, use a cheap sponge, no rinse, wipe down. Amazing stuff.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster - it's not, if done correctly. Superb for the water bans or just a quick, hassle and hose free clean.

Don't take my word for it, look at the reviews on detailing world (also use 'ONR' as a search term)

Surely the process of wiping the product with a cheap sponge just drags the dirt across the paint scratching it?

I do the whole jet wash off, snow foam, leave for 10 mins, rinse with jet wash, 2bm wash, rinse with jet wash, sheet off using DI, pat dry using micro-fibre towel thing.
