bmw approved used

anyone know what sort of discount to expect on approved used bmws when making an offer, there is something thats taken my fancy at a bmw garage and i know its been in stock for a while, is fairly high milage for an used bmw from them (90k) so on a 17k price what do you think they would sell for, thanks

£15k, but start at £13,500. They gave me £12k for mine and put it on the forecourt for £16,500.. >:(

I agree start low you can always go up and that sort of mileage they would want to sell it and then put a more expensive car in the space.

It's a game of nerves. Go low and then leave your details if they say no. The sales guy will tell the sales manager so they will be aware of the offer. If you can leave it at least a week then phone up to see if there's any movement. Also let them know you are looking elsewhere and have your eye on something similar elsewhere.

This will only work if you play the hard game and are prepared to lose out on the sale.

This is basically it. Don't 'fall in love' with the car and be fully prepared to walk away. I did this my X6 and got a stonking deal.

I played the same game as these guys have mentioned and won when buying my X5.

A ballpark seems to be about £3.5 - £4k mark up over the trade in from cars I've traded in over the years. How much they'll drop depends on sales targets, how much the car 'owes' them in prep, etc.

I'm struggling with my latest AUC find, up at £36000 and I offered £33000, they said a straight no. The best I've got it to at the moment is £34750 over the phone!
It's a very low mileage example which makes it hard to barter down, I'll go for extra warranty or Iphone cradle/Road Tax next as the buggers don't seem to want to budge on price anymore

BMW dealers are tight as anything, PX is minimal and they seem shocked when you make then a fair offer

That's not a very good offer. Unless they are also giving you a very good trade in. I would let them know that at this time the offer isn't anywhere near where it needs to be to move forward and let then know you are looking else where. Again, this hardball approach will only work if you are prepared to walk away. If not then the dealership will win.

im easy prepared to leave the one im interested in, not really bothered either way, they have other cars in the group alot cheaper i just like the colour combo

My gaffer has just bought a 330d Ms port 13 plate. He had a 335d which he part exd. He was allowed 13k for it.
I said I'd have had it off him for that. He rang the dealers in Sutton Coalfield to ask them. The salesman rang me back and told me that because they had taken ownership he had to mark them up 1.5K.

More importantly , WHAT SORT OF CAR ARE YOU LOOKING AT ???????????.

Main dealers own brand - I reckon, (in this price range), circa 30% is an often expected screen mark up before prep costs,and dependant on factors including deal done on car changed into by person who part exchanged.

Doing a deal at right time can go in buyers favour but some dealers are far more realistic than others.

From a business prospective I'd rather sell 100 units with 20% profit than 50 at 25% profit. The longer mainstream stuff stays on sale, the more they are likely it to depreciate.

Surely a rapid profited turnover, & fresh stock motivates all concerned....buyers & sellers, (&/or their staff).

Some just don't get it - But what would I know ? ::)

I know, the X5 is at a reasonable dealer price to start with, several hundred miles away so I'm trying to crack a deal prior to travelling to see it. They are playing hard ball, I've also gone in hard and am experienced with getting good deals but it's stalemate on this one

It's the spec, colour etc. that I want, with very low miles so it's a case of if I leave it will anything similar come up soon? Probably a grand or more than I want to pay but having seen many poor examples before now do I take the plunge and go for it??

I think one of the issues possibly at play here is that is that they know you're keen because you're calling from quite far away. Probably gives them a bit more confidence that is you who will bend more, rather than them.

But if you like the car and you can afford it, do what's right for you. If you'd rather not let it pass, don't.

Barney, at the end of the day the deal has to be right for you. If the colour, spec and mileage are right for you then paying a little more than expected could be something you are happy to do to get the right car. We all like to think we get the best deal but I for one haven't played hardball in the past because I just wanted the car that was on offer and wasn't prepared to lose it.
