They will find them now and mine was detected and invalidated warranty

I wouldn't (I don't need to now) risk it anymore.

Absolutely. And all the switchable remaps are still detectable, I believe. It all depends how hard they want to look for them.

Out of interest, what circumstances led to them invalidating your warranty?

I don't actually know

It had been in for some routine work (no problems) and then went back for something (may have been an MOT or something, but again not a problem) and it had flashed up on the screen that it was a tuned car and they then told me that any engine/driveline(the most expensive probs) problems would not be covered.

To be fair they did later repair a suspension part under warranty but I would never risk it on a brand new £50/60/70k car now

Neither Porsche or Audi will now let me hard wire my road angel in to the car without invalidating the warranty, when they werent so bothered before.

Yeah, I just can't justify remapping anymore. Used to do it all the time but, as you say, not worth the risk (for me anyway) on an expensive car. Plus, the utilisation of extra performance for what is, essentially, a family car would be minimal to say the least.

BMW are the same....the car reported the unit was fitted, or at least something was, as the current draw had changed.  I was warned to disconnect it or else!!  It only draws about 200mA when on, and sod all once the battery is charged.

I wonder what their take would on the dash cams being hard wired?

Same stance.

An interference with their system

One of the reasons I haven't got one

Finally its arrived.
I have to say although I miss the 4.8, I am very happy with the 40d initially. The diesel engine does suit the car very well and I am so glad I went the SE way with M sport suspension delete...............its like driving a 7 series and its a very relaxing drive and its totaly silent when cruising. Soaks up all the bumps and the new 8 speed gearbox is seamless.
There are a few things I need to sort out, like the boot doesnt open off the key when the rest of the car is locked ( std boot, not powered option ) and I drive programing, like bluetooth music streaming and the internet amongst other things. Also there doesn't seem to be a way of switching the nav screen off at night should I wish to do so. Im sure all these things will become familiar soon.
Anyway, very pleased and will update as I become more familiar with it.

Regards,

Nat.

Great news Nat. Tailgate should unlock using the bottom button on the key remote. You do need to keep it pressed for a few seconds for the top part of the tail gate to release. This so you don't open it by accident when the keys are in your pocket.

I think the standard is for at least the drivers door to be unlocked before the boot will open - to prevent you accidentally locking the keys inside.  Same on the X6.  You can set the iDrive to only unlock the driver's door on the first press and all doors on a second press.
