Over indulgent dad
Over indulgent dad
OMG I think I am losing it. I got round to thinking about number plates as the new car is arriving soon, god knows why because I have a private plate already and so does the Mrs. Anyway to cut a long story short I have just bought my 6 year old a number plate for when he can drive and gets a car lol. :-[
has anyone else done anything like this?

You're not losing it. I have been mulling over the same recently as I've seen a few really good numbers up for sale.
1 ABC (where ABC are his initials)
2 ABC
3 ABC
All available.
But I'm clearly being more sensible than you as my son is eight.

lmao. Those plates are big bucks so I would say you are in more advanced stages of any mental degenerative diseases.

Re: Over indulgent dad
Yeah, I think the 1 ABC is a little exuberant but the others are annoyingly in reach. Can't quite pull the trigger but would probably regret if if I didn't.
It does sound ridiculous and over indulgent but I still can't stop myself from seriously considering it.

Re: Over indulgent dad
The way registrations work over here is three letters and then between one and four numbers. Ie. EFZ 2435
We have a lot of Zs so most mean nothing but in the past we have had BIG, CRZ,(Honda) BAZ, etc. so it is possible to have BIG 1.
My daughters name is Mia and although MIA was around in the seventies, it was before the cherished plate system so unless I can find a car that is road worthy with MIA ---- I have little chance of getting a decent plate.

Re: Over indulgent dad
Don, point of interest. As we are allowed to have NI plates over here, does the reverse apply?

Yes, the in laws are running around in a Fiat Panda I purchased in England, re-registered it here and kept the same mainland registration.

Re: Over indulgent dad
Of course by then with the proliferation of ANPR and on board black box systems etc, we may have just become a barcode!! >:D
It's not as much fun though......

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Over indulgent dad
I've got a few plates myself (4) and my wife has one.
I did buy one for my daughter when she was a week old (she's only 5 1/2 now!) and got one for my niece when she was 1 (she's 16 now). My other daughter (2 1/2) doesn't have one though as I still can't find anything suitable for her.
I really should sell a couple of the ones I have already

Stick the money in the bank for them - "guaranteed" growth and proper indulgence!
Mate of mine had a personal plate when we were at Uni - nice guy but he took some flak, not all of it kind. Personalised plates are for the thick skinned when you're young!

Totally see where you're coming from. I do have lots of stuff already set up for the kids but there are a few things which, if they're anything like me, they will enjoy/appreciate when they're older, a plate perhaps being one of them.
