New E70 4.0D M Sport owner

I've been lurking for a few weeks but finally thought I'd put my first post in.

I have just bought a 2011 4.0D M Sport in white, it has all the normal extras for a standard spec M Sport of this year, and a few extras that I've added which I will go into more detail below.

I previously owned a E92 335D and a E90 M3 before that so was expecting the X5 to be a lot more laid back but it has put a smile on my face everytime I have driven it so a happy customer here, I haven't driven the X5.0D but they must be outstanding.

Here she is anway, sorry about the rubbish photo but I haven't had a chance to clean it and take some better photos due to the stupid weather



I have a car electronics background so always add different things to my cars but try to keep them as OEM looking as possible, I have added to the CIC a multimedia interface which gives me AV inputs as well as front and rear camera inputs, this is all controlled via the iDrive controller and via the cars CanBus signals.

The camera is very similar to the system OEM, the guide lines move with the steering as this photo illustrates.



The camera sits in the standard location on the tailgate( please excuse the dirt )



I have also installed a front DVR camera which I have linked to the CIC aswell




I do plan to mount a camera under the front numberplate but haven't got round to this yet, I'm sure there will be a few other things in the future so will keep you updated for anyone who's interested.

Thanks for the replies, yes I thought I might get some questions, once I've finished the install I will put a more in depth post together, this is a brand new module and I am still ironing our some of the programming with the Korean manufacturer as I am the first person to install it in a RHD car  luckily I have the knowledge and the manufacturer can speak good English

Welcome Bomber.  Chompers is spot on, as ever, when he says that you'll be in high demand for advice.  I read your post and thought to myself - "I want that too" re the forward cam!  Presumably seeing the image live simply helps you to position the cam for recording (safety) purposes? Or does it have additional benefits when you're manouvering?  Front corner cams would be helpful from time to time - my under wing mirror cams are good, but a fraction lacking.

I'm not a white car fan, but it does seem to really suit the X5.  The Q7, RRSs etc look awful IMHO - I saw a white XC90 the other day which looked ridiculous - and I like the Volvos a lot.

I will definitely post with greater detail once completed, with the DVR I don't use for live footage just for reviewing recorded footage (this is possible though), the front bumper camera should be useful when parking, the manufacturer is sending me new firmware which will activate the front camera automatically when coming from reverse, it will also be activated by a long push on one of the idrive buttons if necessary.

I also have this linked to my iPhone via the Apple AV lead so i can play movies etc on the iDrive screen

This is my second white car, not had one for 20 years though, last car was Space grey and didn't show the dirt as much however is better than black which I've had a few cars in
