You can 'model description delete' (or whatever its called) as a factory option.

I would imagine its the same in Germany.

As others have said it's 'model designation deletion' or also known as debadged - very popular in Germany.
I prefer the look of the cars this way too, where my cars haven't come from the factory without the badges I've removed them myself.

I debadged mine, they kept snagging on the drying towel, dental floss is perfect for it.
They look very "American" on the doors, not very nice.

am very tempted to do this- just can't clean around them properly.  Hairdryer and dental floss seem to be the tools, but honestly - is this doable for someone who has very limited technical skill?  Is there any residue left behind?

Taking badges off the wife's car this week.

Took the 3.0d badges on the front wings off the X the week I bought it!

- Yes, absolutely.

- Yes. WD40 will remove it.

You may need to give the area a quick polish afterwards if you can see the outline of the letters. Honestly, dead easy.

Exactly - polish the area afterwards and job done. Want photos? Can take some as I go along.

You just need to be careful when taking them off - when you pull on one corner of the lettering the other end could dig inwards towards the paintwork (as it's foam backed). The floss is a great idea with a hairdryer to get the glue soft.
