Insurance
Re: Insurance
Why would a driveway make it more expensive? ???
I would have expected on street parking to be 'higher risk'......I can never understand these brokers...

Re: Insurance
Keys get stolen - car on the drive, they know where to get the car from. On the street, 'less risk' - they're not sure where it is.
Garage is even higher btw. Stupid, I know.
Oh and your job description is another as is the age old - adding the missus to the premium (cheaper).

Re: Insurance
Got a really good quote of Swiftcover with the legal and protected no claims for £425 very pleased a lot better than Admirals renewal quote for £815
That was till I told them I had a non standard rear skirt . Now they have told me they won't insure me unless I remove the skirt,"its ok to mod the x but no skirts" , where are they coming from?

Re: Insurance
I think you need to clarify with them what they mean by being ok to mod. Seems very contradictory.
(I'm with swiftcover too)

I agree. Seems an odd statement.

Axa will no doubt be cheaper for you but Axa, Swift and Swift Plus are all the same co. and they ONLY insure low risk (meaning, older and unmodified). Keep at Admiral, they're more mod friendly but you need to speak to them and ask to help get the quote down.
Renewing AND getting a cheaper price is becoming harder and harder and you need to work at it BIG time.
20 years of insurance and every year I've managed to get it below the previous year (even if only by a few quid) but not this year. A combo of new/better 2nd car and declaration of mods means higher renewal for the first time. Not happy but have worked hard to get where I am (beased on my postcode/age/blah blah blah).
Keep pluggin' away!

Re: Insurance
You lads and lasses want to think yourselves lucky, I am being punished with 1550 quid a year on the 4.8is and that is with adding the old man as a named driver (2140 quid on my own). A combination of 2 crashes in 6 weeks (one my fault and one not) and 5 points and a 480 quid fine really didn't help. I may be lucky with my renewal later on in the year as the points come off next month.

Did you go on a comparison website? If so, which one was the next cheapest after swift?

Re: Insurance
Another option to reduce premiums is to look at the Legal Protection Insurance. I have always taken this on our policies "just in case" ::) however the rates do seem to keep going up. Its now around £24 per policy.
While I know some policies do include LPI at no cost, for those that do have several cars a generic policy like this http://www.memonline.co.uk/legal.html seems to be a much cheaper route to go.
Just a thought
