Gearbox software update?

Post by rjkc600 » Fri Mar 15, 2013 8:41 pm

Hi guys - how much should I expect to pay for a gearbox update?

In thinking I'd like it done to see if it speeds up the gear change at all.

Any other tips regarding the update would be welcome.

Won't really. Some gearboxes will take to the update, others won't (75% don't).

Get the ATF changed (with the filter) and perhaps get a remap (not for power gains). A remap puts the sensors on 'heighten alert', so-as-to-speak. This helps diagnose any hidden issues too.

A V8 '02 may benefit.

Had mine done by Jason recently, 95 quid I think. Can't remember wether that included vat or not.

Made a difference for me-sped up changes and doesn't stay in gear for so long.

You could try this first works on an E70.

automatic transmission reset procedure: Turn on the car such that all the accessory lights are on but the motor is not running, depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor, keep the pedal there for 30 seconds and the transmission will reset to the original factory settings (it will "unlearn" the adaptive settings).straight from a BMW Technician

Thanks guys. I've been quoted £60 for the transmission update from my local Indy (www.powerdevelopments.co.uk), updated with official bmw software of the latest version.

They did my ATF and filter last year, I didn't realise they could do updates but they can so its booked in this week.

Does £60 sound reasonable?

Dennys - yeah I've done that a few times and it does help, but the car reverts back to my driving style.

I only ever use light throttle so the car is going to respond according to that I guess. Can't afford to drive this juicy V8 around too fast.
