Aftermarket DVD player help!

Post by DiscoX5 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 2:18 pm

ok so this is a long shot but I thought I'd ask!

Bought an X5 in January from a BMW main dealer. The car came with a rear DVD player and 2 screens built into headrests. The DVD player is a Veba AV-2701. It's a very professional installation and almost looks factory. This wasn't the reason I purchased the car (I will never use it!) so I simply regarded it as a bonus and might be a good selling point when I choose to move on.

The problem is that every time I get in the car (i.e. open the door) the DVD player starts making an annoying buzzing noise. It continues this noise the whole time during driving. The radio will drown it out but if I choose not to listen to music then I can hear the noise. The noise is worse for rear passengers. (DVD player located by rear air con). The DVD player is not 'on' at any point and turning it on makes no difference to the noise. It obviously draws some power from the car all the time and I guess this is what is making the noise.

My local dealer won't touch it as its aftermarket and the dealer I purchased it from is too far away to take it back.

I was thinking the easiest way to solve the problem, would be to remove the fuse for the DVD player? But which fuse? I have no idea who did the installation so I cannot ask them!

Have attached a photo of where the DVD player is located and of my 2 fuse boxes.

Does anyone familiar with their fuse box see an unfamiliar fuse in my photos? Or does anyone have any other ideas as to how I could stop this noise?  I am in North Birmingham.

Any help greatly appreciated!

If you can get to the back of the unit you can disconnect it from the plug.

Fuses won't be placed in the original fuse boxes - hence being unable to simply remove a fuse.

Or see if Raj can help, he's in Wolves...

thanks for the info Sanj. I'd just assumed there would be a fuse somewhere so that saves me a lot of messing about!

The unit is fixed in place so I can't get to the back of it. Guess I'll take it to a car AV specalist to see what they can do.

Cheers!

If it is in there, it has to come out, there must be mounting screws for the complete unit, remove ash tray and have a good look.
