A different way to get that CF look

I watched Wheeler Dealers doing the Range Rover L322 tonight (the one with the awful matte textured and electric Blue paint job) and they used a firm on the South Coast who sand down and then reprint your plastic parts before applying a water based transfer film onto whatever you wanted 'done' before finishing off with a clearcoat.

They did a really good job redoing the interior in a CF transfer effect for all the interior bits for a mere £200!  Not sure what a CF wrap would have cost, but this looked pretty good.

I only saw the company name flash past, but I think it's Wicked Coatings and it might be a choice for some on here who don't have good wrapping skills......

I am highly skeptical of the price quoted, just don't believe you or I would ever get a quote for 200. And, while I'm nitpicking, they clearly put new tyres on the car with the refurbed alloys - conveniently left out of the (completely unrealistic) final costs.

Well done that man! I did the same...

It's a relatively new dipping process in the UK and used a lot in the US. I looked into it about a year a go when I was messing with my trim options. Done a lot on the bikes too.

But agree the prices will no doubt be much more (oh and can have anything you want print-wise).

I saw the end of it. I thought the carbon fibre thing was a bit of 'tv special deal.'

Didn't make massive profit considering the amount of input / effort.

I am pretty sure if they'd sorted the engine / suspension issue they'd still have made an equal, if not greater, profit.

Speaking of Wheeler Dealers, did anyone else see the Boxster X programme in earlier this week. Mike paid £1k for a 2000 'S' with an iffy titronic and the bloke with the hair sorted it for £200

Yeah, caught it the other day.  It's so much better now that it's a flagship show so they're not always stuck with a £1k car and a tiny budget, but the Boxster deal was superb.

Certainly a good find, but the thing that got me was, surely the previous owner most have been advised to do/try the same thing!!! it wasn't rocket science. If not I bet he is kicking himself now  :bangin:

Yeah, I know. But, lets assume the owner wasn't mechanically minded and didn't have a mate (or honest garage) who would suggest this. Most garages would've done the sharp-intake-of-breath thing and quoted him stupid bucks to get it fixed.

I guess theres quite a large 'made for TV' element to all this. The poor sod had had that 'S' sitting around for 4 years, he also discussed the sale on a forum, guessing it was a Porsche one. You would of thought that someone would have suggested the oil change  ::)

A friend of mine has a V8 MGBGT, early seventies I think.  He was approached by the production team for Mark Evens, who were planning the An MG is Reborn program.  They offered him stupid money and tried to fluff it up by saying that it was for TV and his car would be famous!  He said no, so they went off and found someone who was prepared to give their car away.  So take the costs quoted with a big pinch of salt.
