Re: LED GU10 Downlights
Got a shed load off e-bay a while ago.
First got the 63led equiv to 50w (approx 2w) and were good throw and brightness, but didn't last long (admittedly they were cheap)
Then got some 3x1W LED spots (approx £1.20 each). Tighter beam, better light and have lasted well over 18 months so far...
Got 4 mounted above my cooker so have had a lot of heat cycling and still going strong.
Reduced my lighting power from 750W to just under 65w with no detriment to brightness
(this includes 2 CCFL in pendants above the table.)

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Re: LED GU10 Downlights
Thanks Steamy, currently have 400w in the ceiling + another 180w under the wall units. Will repelace these with the 'strip' like LED set up. As for the ceiling, looking to get a brighter whiter light if possible.

Re: LED GU10 Downlights
I bough some a few years ago but ended up binning them. I found the light they gave off to be a bit 'corner shop'. Too close to flourescent lighting in my opinion. It's about time someone invented one with a closer light colour to original.

i got loads of ebay , 21 smd's with a glass screen at about £6 each...make sure you get bulbs with a 130'ish degree beam angle as these will spread the light about , if you get 30 degree jobbys then these will be like spots..

Re: LED GU10 Downlights
I've got a dozen of these in the kitchen. Happy with the way they look - took a bit of time to get used to the white light as opposed to the more yellowish light from the halogens. Didn't last as long as I'd hoped, perhaps 12-18 months.
Re: LED GU10 Downlights
If you want proper warm white long lasting LED's which are dimable, then you are looking to spend £16 - £20 each. I know it's a lot, but you get what you pay for.
Philips are still one of the better lamps.
I recently fitted 10 new 9w warm white LED dimable fire rated downlight fittings including drivers for a customer and they were £30 + vat to me.
Customer loves the light output and energy saving. They will pay for themselves in about a year compared to the R80's that were there before

Re: LED GU10 Downlights
Cheers guys for your thoughts and replies
5000k must be very white, a certain DIY chain I was in today only seemed to go up to 3000k. Thought the idea of these LED lights were that not only did they save energy but that they ran much cooler and so didn't need replacing as often? I still have some halogens in the kitchen that have been there 10 years!!!

Re: LED GU10 Downlights
Our house was fitted with 50W Halogen spots in every room, by the previous owner. Serious electricity bills, unsurprisingly.
Have swapped them all (incl transformers) for 6W LED and more than happy. Have easily recouped our outlay already as the bills have plummeted.

Rusty are they as bright as 50w GU10s? Also what brand are they?

I take it that's £30 per fitting and not for all 10 bulbs?

Yes I think so- I've tried a number of LED bulbs and none of them match the brightness or spread of a halogen (
