PS2 mod without TV module

Post by tractorjacob » Sun Oct 31, 2010 8:58 pm

Hi again,
Not had my X for long and am looking to do as many mods as my wallet/wife will allow.

Already installed the intravee II for my Iphone which is fantastic! Cant recommend it enough.

I am interested in the PS2 mod so I can play games and watch DVDs.
I have the Nav screen but no TV module, I am guessing this is probably required to use the PS2??
Seems a lot of money even for a second hand one especially as the Analog signal will be turned off soon.

Is there any other less expensive way to watch media on my nav screen?

I am also thinking of DVD headrests to keep the nipper quiet in the back. Spotted some on ebay like these ones:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BD937-Pair-2X-9-C ... 56408c28e6

The look suspiciously cheap for what you get and I was wondering if anyone had got a set like these and if they were any good?
Also how do they look on the BMW sports seats, I thought they may look a bitty bulky?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!!
Dave

Quite a few people have bought these and are happy with them - they are well priced for what you get. ITBarbie has a pair installed, I have a pair but need to Get Around ToIt. Surprisingly good match for the black leather, bit bigger than the OEM headrests but not a major issue. There are loads of other much more expensive options, but these do what they claim on the tin for a small-ish price. I've tested mine and they really are quite ok.

PS2 mod without TV module

Post by ITBarbie » Sun Oct 31, 2010 9:54 pm

Hi

Mine are great and perfect for the kids to watch Arsenals favourite goals ( wonder how many people I've put off with that statement :-)

The only thing I hate is the poles are too thin so you get an annoying rattle on them. I did have them professionally fitted but still set about with some black electrical tape before it was gone.

I paid full whack for them in eBay but I know Condor made an offer and got headphones which I wish I'd have got now. I've got all the wiring ready for the PS2 but have not even got round to putting it in yet. All in all you get what you pay for but the match is good and they do the job :-)

Dave,

Others have commented on the screens - add Pewters to that list. They are BIG when in the car but they are fine for that price. If you get them you won't regret it.

As for the other question - can you tell me if you have the AV in/out switch in the rear of the centre console? That's the only way I know of tapping into the video input.... :scratchhead:

Hi, thanks for all the replies, very helpfull!

Sanj, pretty sure I dont have the Av in/out switch in the back (Im overseas just now and wont be able to check for a week or 2)

I did find this thread on how to install an aux input from another forum:

http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/bsw ... ut-x5.html

You reacon if I did the above mod I could play the PS through that?
Hope so, as it seem a pretty cheap option.

Thanks again for all the help.
Muchos grassy arse!

D'oh!

No go there! That's for audio only - connecting music iPod/MP3's and such like....

It won't support video input.

Do you have any on-screen menu option to go into an AV channel? Being away isn't gonna help answer that one - as and when... :)

Im pretty sure I dont have the AV channel option on my OBC.
I guess I would need something like this:
http://www.toysinyourcar.com/acatalog/b ... _notv.html

Way too much cash for me at the moment. Never mind, will probably lookout for a cheap second hand TV module on ebay. I would imagine they will be getting cheaper as we lose the analog signal.

Great pics X555, they look much better than I was expecting. Well worth the £180 especially if the result is a silent child in the back on long journeys ;)

Thanks for all the info, this place rocks!
