[quote="mikem"]OP were the speed and load index of the non run flat tyres lower than OEM on the mini ?? I'd expect that to have a bigger impact on decision. There has to be more to the story.

The garage propietor is local to me. I have spoken to him a handful of times. When we spoke it was on back of me discussing a forecourted car with runflats & I said I would remove them from any car so equipped, (I did not indicate I intended to buy it). On back of that he offered the info re other customers car the insurer failed to settle on because run flats removed...........In meantime a customer arived for a test drive so time was not right to further scrutinise or query load indexes.

I am insured with AXA and they advised me that it is not performance enhancing they have no issue with it. However, i did go with the BMW Approved Michelins (not that it would probably make any difference if a claim was queried).

Thanks AW8 for highlighting this. I also swapped out of 19" RFT's on my e61 and to be honest never even thought about any possible insurance isssues. Will be on the phone in the morning!!!

When I purchased my car it was the only e61 for sale with RFT's on the 19" 'Spyder' wheels all other cars for sale had standard tyres. For some reason the car had been spec'd with them from the factory  :chair:

Sorry missed your post mate :-[

Any update with insurer ?

On PH someone checked with ABI who emailed back & stated they did not expect an issue if correct size, speed rating, load index and of course legal depth/condition.

i changed mine to non run flats and also from 19" to 21"(official BMW), told 3 or 4 insurers and all said no problems, they would just note.  Just worth declaring so it is on file

Have just spoken to LV. They have no issues with regard to changing from RTF's to std tyres. As long as there is no difference in the tyre size that replaces the original RFT's

Thanks again to AW8 for highlighting this potential issue  ;)
