Evil G!ts
Evil G!ts
UK Police a forces and 'Safety Camera Partnerships' are trialling a new breed of speed cameras mounted in the Armco barriers at the ends of the barrier runs!! As there is no longer a need to have the cameras painted yellow, these little beggars are very hard to spot and can be mounted as a matched pair on a 'known length' of Armco!!
Now that's sneaky!

Re: Evil G!ts
Honestly, there's only a few select roads where I will allow myself to put my foot down and have some fun. Other than that, it's usually a max of an indicated 75.
There are far too many speed traps, plain clothes cars etc on the roads today. In fact, on the latter point, I can't remember the last time I saw a car pulled up on the m'way by a liveried cop car - all plain.

Re: Evil G!ts
That's just shameful.
Re: Evil G!ts
It's said in several places that this is a facebook hoax and that Armco cameras are not currently on trial in the UK. But concealed cameras are in use in France and Switzerland. So who's to trust that they won't come here.
Question is will they be considered legal or are hidden cameras still considered entrapment and therefor not legal?
To be however mobile speed traps by good old fashioned cops and camera crews in vans are better than any fixed camera that would be on tomtom camera database in a few days .
Afaik the uk camera partnership + cops still officially publish the location of all fixed cameras.
Still always pays to keep your eyes open!

Re: Evil G!ts
They are bound to come here, motorists are an easy target for the government. Not that I condone speeding of course on public roads.

I'm still in favour of live cameras and flashing signs which indicate to offending motorists that they should pull in to the next available 'sin bin' for 10 minutes. That would stop middle lane hogging and resultant speeding from frustrated motorists plus it would bring in millions as you'd have costa coffee serving the sin bin areas and road safety short films plus adverts being shown to a captive audience
Re: Evil G!ts
Great idea Snipez, but you would be in the sin bin all the time >:D
On a recent trip to France on a route I have travelled many times, several new 'un marked' speed cameras have sprung up. They are about 2m tall with the diameter of a telegraph poll and no yellow hatching and have 2 cameras installed at different heights. There were a couple of matrix signs indicating vehicle speed leading up to the camera but these seemed pretty inaccurate.
Thankfully france and teh UK sill don't have a treaty to pass speeding tickets from one to the other, thank god
Anyone who travels to France will also know about the silly breathalyzer issue that has thankfully beeen scraped. At the same time that they tried to introduce these last year the Government also anounced that all sign high lighting speed cameras would be taken down. I understand that this idea has also been put on hold.

Re: Evil G!ts
Not heard of these myself but will look into this to see whether hoax or not.
Some find it frustrating that safety is cited as the reason for cameras, yet throughout the uk there are multiple potholes & sections of carrageways where the grip surface has literally worn or been lifted, (often on approaches to junctions or on bends). Also worn carrageway markings can conrtibute to collision risk.
I type this after recently finding myself, (in Z3), sideways towards a tree having lost grip on a significantly detriorated grip surface. Some opposite lock & feathered throttle rectified matters, however, closest call I have had for many years..............Note to self to ease off a little.

Re: Evil G!ts
Very true indeed. Had a blast along the A272 yesterday in Mrs Chompers replacement car and there was a terible sention of road surface just outside Petersfiled. Had very poor signs adviseing motorbikes to take extra care but really the road surface had disintergrated. Poor poor show on behalf of the HA.
@AW8 - glad you and the Z3 didn't come to harm, takes experiences like that to focus the mind sometimes. something I guess we all need.

Re: Evil G!ts
Thanks I can't remember the last time I had such a close call. Good to have learned from it without damage or injury. A bit of dented pride - albeit dialing in/out opposite lock whilst feathering throttle helped a little.........luck on my side the main factor though.
