which sat nav to buy?

Post by awj85 » Fri Mar 08, 2013 1:27 pm

usually use my i phone for a map but currently without it as its bust!
my back up was my old Garmin 250, but thats also appears to have stopped working plus its very old and would cost more to update than it would to buy a new one.
so question is which sat nav do use/recommend?
i only require UK, and dont use it too often so am not looking to spend £££.  main feature i require is simple to use, and able to input the postcode.

look forward to your views/opinions on this one.  thanks guys

I bought a top of the range Tom Tom  5 yrs ago cost a lot.

however about 2 yrs ago bought a Garmin one.

Smaller  better in  terms of clearer and easier to programme and cost about £90 reason I bought was I asked chap in halfords and they were more reliable and less returns.

Even better than. BMW system in E53 or the sat nav in the wife's Astra which doesn't even take post codes.

Also I gets nicked only cost less than £100

Do you have either an iPhone or Android? If so, just use Google Maps. Free, roads always up to date, does the job.

Edit: note to self - read OP.

Sorry!

Google maps not necessarily free as it uses internet to display.  Maps are not stored on the iPhone..

Nokia N8 has maps installed on phone and has a decent gps setup so no data useage when navigating.
Just a shame the rest of the phone is a pile of cr@p..

Oh yeah, good point.

Would've been better just deleting the whole post!

I got Tom Tom on my iphone and I use it every day,off memory it was about £50/£60 i dont think thats too bad as it's pretty handy as you always have it on you no matter which car your in and theres no need to worry about leaving it in the car either. Can you get your phone fixed, or has it had it? I THINK you can exchange a totalled iphone for a new one for £100 at a iPhone store, so it may be cheaper to do that rather than repair it, assuming that its true of course. I realise that means forking out £160 or so, but at least you will then have a working phone and a sat nav rather than spending the money just on a sat nav.

Isn't it something your local dodgy phone shop could sort out?

Ok then, what is your budget as you clearly may also be in need of a new phone as well?

Well if a 3GS is something you'd consider, head over to AVForums and get one for £75-85ish.
