Have had the car for a few days now, and must report that it is really nice to drive, we are very very pleased with it.  The twin turbo engine seems to have a little bit of grunt so it is no slouch, currently averaging 23-24mpg, so could be worse.  It is a bit bouncy at slow speeds, but i guess that is a product of hard suspension and big run flats.  My Dobermann was a bit shocked when he saw the height of the boot....not what he is used to, but he seems to have come round to the idea now  :)  I am having the rear wheel arch extensions and sills re painted as they have been pretty well hammered with stones (32k miles on clock) the bodyshop are going to fit clear plastic film onto the front of the rear arch extensions.......has anyone else had this done, and does it look ok?

Glad to hear all is well with the new car  :) 23-24mpg brings back memories of my V8 a few years back. I really do miss the sound and get up and go of that car  :'(

Good idea to fit the clear film to the parts you mention. chipping is a common problem on e70's and indeed many other modern cars due to the water based paint. 3M make the stuff, used to fit loads of it to Lotus Elise's back in the good old days. I will try and dig the tread out that discussed this film, so you can read for yourself.

I know what you mean about the slow speed ride. I have definately started to be more selective when negotiating potholes and broken road surfaces. Sports suspension, 20" wheels and runflats dont make for the a comfy ride!!

to be honest my M3 (in its softest setting) has a softer ride than the x5, but seats are more comfy in x5  :D

Glad your new beast is treating you well  :) I thought the ride was good on my old X5 on 20's but I suppose air suspension & non run flats helped.

The ride in a M3 is quite hard in the sport setting too but it's nice having the option of comfort aswell, hope you enjoy your new X5 I miss my old one lots!
