Newbie in Bristol

Post by andysj » Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:15 pm

I used to have a 2007 x3 30D, decided I wanted something different so two years ago bought an Audi A5 sportback.  Despite being a nice car, it seemed to lack something.  I never enjoyed driving it as much as the X3 or previous BMWs.

So, I started shopping around a few weeks ago looking for a secondhand E70, had been looking on the AUC site and found some, but most of the cars I was interested  in seemed to be either 150 -180 miles away.

Two weeks ago popped into Lovetts in Bristol, they had a couple of second hand cars and this unregistered X5:

Started taking to the salesman who mentioned they would be able to do a deal if I bought the car before the end of February.

By the time we had finished the finance rate was down and I had a decent reduction in price meaning it was cheaper to buy the new car than the secondhand ones looked at before.

Picked up the car on the 22nd and have been enjoying it since.

The spec is almost what I would have ordered if I had ordered the car initially:
3.0d SE, sapphire black, black leather, media pack, side-steps, sun protection glass, heated seats, folding and dipping mirrors, internet, 19" non-staggered wheels and extra seats in the boot (probably the one option I wouldn't choose as I will never use them).

Looking a little dirtier now as I've used it to go clay shooting in (the extra ground clearance was another reason to change from the Audi).

Am looking forward to taking it across France and into Spain later in the year.

Hello, and congrats on the new motor.

Just traded in my X3 for a 09 X5 35d SE. Picked it up from Dick Lovett last Friday.
Been grinning ever since (though the X5 is a bit thirstier than i'd expected :( ).

Enjoy

Very nice! I too bought new and it worked out cheaper than 2nd hand due to the interest rates. The 3rd row seats will help sell it (one day) so probably a useful extra to have. According to one dealer I spoke to, they add about a grand to the 2nd hand price.

Happy motoring!

That's good to know as I've just bought mine new without the 3rd row seats and as it's (from memory) a £1200 option makes sense not to have them if you don't need them (and get the extra cubby holes too)

No, I'm glad already
As soon as I got the A5 I started missing the x3.
Not missing the A5 at all, it was just soulless.

I just keep reminding myself that the x5 will be more economical than the x3 as the engines have moved on a bit (seems to be a little better already) and should be much better than my thirstiest car which only managed a best of  24MPG, on a run to Cornwall!

I'm suprised thats all the mpg you got, what, with that fine motor being a 62 plate ;) an all that.

Oh and congrats on motor, nice deal, good that u got one of the shelf that was close to an ordered spec & 19%=£41K otr  :)  reckon they broke even just to hit figures, so well done.  Full 3yr warranty 0miles, def better than AUC.

Good effort, I really must stop by launch cars when they are full price and fashionable!
