Can't decide on x6 or x5
Can't decide on x6 or x5
Hi all,
Current owner of an m3 and have been looking into changing to a x5 or x6.
I have prices from dealer for fully maintained on a 40d on each,so cost is not really a deciding factor
Anyway, just looking opinions from x6 owners? Do you ever wish you had purchased an x5 instead? What is towing like with an x6?
How have you found other people's reactions to the car?

Re: Can't decide on x6 or x5
Having been the owner of three X5s all E53s, I loved them ( well the last one was a lemon but thats a different story). But when the time came to purchase a new X late last year I did look at a number of X5s (E70s) but was put off by their success, every other decent car around Belfast is either an X5 or RR Sport (or so it seems). So looked at the X6 and realised this was the car for me. Looks that get you noticed, a boot thats very big and a very good towing car. I'm over the moon with the X6 and know I made the right choice. All that said, it works for us as its only the wife, daughter (10) and myself. A bigger family or old kids may find it just too impractical in the rear.

I looked at both and the x6 boot and rear vision was the deciding factor for me,also the rear headroom is a lot less in the x6 so bought a x5 40d no regrets whatsoever both cars are fantastic so its down to what you use it for

Re: Can't decide on x6 or x5
Wifey has the X5 40d for family duties as it's a 7 seater with towbar (though I also have towbar on my 6 for bike duties) and we all get in it.
I had an X6 40d for 22 months and now have an X6 M50d - I went for the dedicated 4 seater because it's usually me and my golf clubs/trolley, or a couple of us with clubs/trollies, and sometimes the twins when I do the school run.
For me it's a Bee Gees chest wig of a car, with "out of my way, mortal!" road presence. Handling every bit as good as a saloon (had a 5 series before) with slightly more DSC action - but that road presence..........
X5 = family car for luggage laden trips
X6 = normally driven 1 or 2 up, light ish loads, exec SUV with more muscular curves (penis envy) - an example of this would be the lack of bonnet bulge (ooeer) on the X5 M50d.
But neither variant is a slouch in twin turbo guise (and in tri turbo guise.........)

Re: Can't decide on x6 or x5
Like Don I also had an E53 before buying the X6. At the time we had no need for a replacement X5 and we also have a Mini Countryman for the general runabout.
No regrets at all about the X6. I also have the 4-seater and that's fine. We're expecting our first child any time now, and if we need more luggage capacity then I'll use the towbar and plug the trailer in - as we can with the Mini too. That's not to say you can't get a lot in the X6 as it has the underfloor boot store too - unless you buy a spare wheel from BMW.
E70's are everywhere and in addition to the (IMHO) better handling and looks of the X6, I like the rarity value. For a two tonne wagon it can certainly hustle - as can the E70 - but the X6 is the one for me.

Lol I do want to get an X6 and I am trying to convince myself it's the right car for me.There are pros and cons for both
X5-for, size and room. Coming from an m coupe I really like the room afforded in an X5,
Against, sheer number of them on the road, squareness of shape,
X6, for-exclusivity, handling, looks,
against-low rear roof and headroom, looks,

Well as I alluded to in first post. The X6 works so long as you are not expecting to carry taller people in the rear on regular longer journeys (I'm over six foot and can site there but the roofline touches my head slightly). But the boot is the same size as the X5s up to window level and is in no way small. Okay it doesn't have any useable space above the window line, but if you need that much space the X6 probably won't work for you. I have the four seat option and again love it. It makes the people in the back feel special. I also question how useful the fifth seat is as the interior space in the rear is not as wide as the X5.
The X6 doesn't feel small and having had eight previous BMWs, I can say without doubt, this is not only the best one by far, it's the best car I've ever had!

PS. Sorry, I forgot to give you a proper welcome.......Hi and Welcome Scorpio.

Welcome. I had a e92 335i before my X6 and there is more head room in the rear of the X6 than the e92, I am 6'2" and I have plenty of room. The boot is huge as well compared to the e92 so unless you need the extra room the X5 van shape (incoming ) ) gives you then you will have more than enough with the X6.
