Where to buy voltage regulator

My alternator is only supplying 13.4 volts at idle and 13.6 volts at 4000 rpm so I want to replace the regulator and brushes. According to realoem it's a Valeo 150 amp alternator. I've tried a few suppliers and none can supply what I want (although they can supply an entire alternator). Does anyone know a supplier who can supply the regulator?

Also , you really should say what year and model you have otherwise nobody can give a quick answer .

I used my telepathic powers to deduce that you have a late 2004 3.0D .
And anyway , if you use a tellingbone to call a dealer and give them your car details I am sure they will provide you with the correct part .

A fossilised Mobile perhaps?  Or possibly two bones with string between.  You speak to one bone and it 'tells' the bone at other end.....

Sure I can get it from bmw but you know how much more expensive they normally are. I was hoping for a much cheaper 3rd party source.

BMW want £111 for it  :'( . I'm gonna try and get the Motorola number off the back of it and find a sensibly priced option.

Is there not a possibility of repairing the 'item' ,or someone could it be a part that is 'universal ' to other alternators just a thought

Once I'd got the Valeo part number of the alternator off the back of it, I managed to source a regulator with brushes for £55. So all changed and still < 14v charging.

Nothing really wrong with those charging figures,  How many volts do you want to charge a 12 volt battery!

Cant remember off the top of my head if the X5 is "smart" charging, If so then the alternator will only give an output required by the battery,  If the battery is in good condition then I'd expect to see those figures.

Have you tried a volt drop test and a test with loads on?

My 62 plate VW Caddy sits at 12.4 volts, switch the loads on and it gives what is required upto about 14.2 volts
