This may be of use to anyone who wants to know what was standard, the available options, and prices at the time on the 4.8iS range.

I can't see many differences apart from colour between the 2 models. The Excl Edition doesn't come with a CD changer?? Also I've never seen a 4.8is in the UK without sun protection glass and running boards, both of which are shown as options on the price list. Has anyone seen a 4.8is Excl Ed?

There was one for sale on the BMW AUC website last week (Black 4.8iS) that didn’t have running boards. Have had both, I prefer the look of running boards, but in day to day use I actually prefer the one without. As for ever seeing a 4.8is Exclusive Edition, no I’ve never seen one, probably not worth the additional £2,700 over the ‘standard’ one when new.

Just noticed there is one for sale at ‘Hexagon’ - £26k !! ;)

Also noticed there is a 4.8iS currently for sale without running boards:-

I think the exclusive edition was a Carbon Black as I recall - the one at Hexagon has been there a long time, it doesn't have the long list of extra "extras" that buyers of such cars would want - it was there when I bought my 4.8 from them end July. Mine had everything on the list of options that I wanted - all that was missing was the electric load floor option which others had said was more of a hindrance than anything else. The options most sought-after are the upgraded sound systems with DSP, auxiliary heating with remote (it works splendidly!), and tow bar. Rear seat heating, rear aircon are nice but in my case don't get a lot of use. US editions were slightly different in spec and options for the UK market seem to have been a bit narrower - interior trim for instance, seems limited here to about 6 options while the US had about 20!
I've used mine on 2 weeks of long commutes recently and am delighted with it - 24.1MPG average consumption and a great drive, but I need to choose a company car now as I don't want to tank up massive mileage on my X and I'm going to get beyond the 10 000 mile limit very quickly, after which I'll only get 25p per mile!!! Will start a new thread so you can help me choose one.......
