Folding Mirrors

Post by johnx5 » Thu Feb 21, 2013 7:15 pm

Is there any way to program them so they fold when you switch the engine off and unfold when you start up. I have had this on other cars but the ones on my X5 need to be done manually.

Some versions can be, but the latest ones not as BMW say it's a safety hazard!!  No idea who to though. >:(

There is a forum called BMW Coders who know how to get into the car systems and which values to change, but you do need the software to get into it in the first place.  I'd like it on my X6 too, along with being able to close the tailgate from the driver's seat.

The salesman I bought my E70 from said it is a feature for the next X5.

If it can be done then Jason of bwchiptune will know.

i think the intravee has an option for this.
Current: BMW 640i Convertible (320PS)
             Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 T FSI quattro (300 PS) SE STronic  8)
Previous: BMW X5 E53 Facelift 3.0d

It was an option on the current one until a couple of years ago.

Yep intravee does it, just sold mine for £200 plus gives your a lot more options. Like door looks, parking distance on naf display and cluster and a few more.

It can be done, just not officially.  The function is set to 'not Active' but only needs changing to 'Active'.  I don't have a 32-bit based computer anymore or an OEM copy of XP to run in a VM.

Are you referring to the ability to close the tailgate from inside the car?  Your last sentence might as well have been Dutch to me.  Far too technical for my understanding!

Have you an E70?

If you have they will not close over by themselves when locking the car but if they are closed and you start driving they open out at a set speed, so long as you don't immediately need the mirrors it works just fine. My E70 is a 2008 model.

Yes its an E70 and just found out yesterday when I set off with them folded and they suddenly unfolded. Shame they dont fold automatically but one out of two isnt bad!!

It can be done, but needs the car's code to be changed and the Dealers won't do it as it's not 'approved'.  As with the powered tailgates, it's all in the car already and just needs the function code changing.
