I'll not be able to make it, although I will be on the mainland for the next five days the time will be spent in and around Glasgow.  Are you intending to go xl5?

this is what i've seen on their facebook page,

  Gathering commences 4pm
- convoy starts to get into position 6.30,7.00
- convoy leaves when everyone is ready 7.00,7:30
- arrive at destination

the route is the a24 down to the coast [brighton i think] and the guinness book of records will be there cos they are trying to get the longest bmw convoy..

Surely a two and a half hour journey is a small price to pay to get yourself in the Guinness Book of Records.  ;)

Can't make it as I have to go to the Baby Show in London.  Would have had a go otherwise.  :(

And there is no way I'm letting Mrs X5Sport loose with a credit card at Excel whilst I go off and join a convoy... >:(

I could possibly get to meet but not the drive so a bit pointless I guess.

:)) I was second guessing what your reply would be and came up with washing the car, watching paint dry or cat sitting.

well i got of me ass and went...it was a bit of a disappointment due to bad organisation, the meet at cobham services was ok with approx 250 bmws there [only one x5 though, me], we sat there for a couple of hours with no idea of what was happening as the peeps that organised it were 17/18 years old and were more interested in keeping warm in the services...
the intention was to break the Guinness world record for the most bmws in a convoy but as it happens we were told at the meet that it would cost £4k for officials to attend so the bmwoc decided to 'do' the count themselves which didnt work that well..
the 'run' to the secret destination was a massive fail..no one knew where it was except for a few and most figured it could be brigton but this was not confirmed .  so of we went on to the m25 one after another trying to stay in convoy with the route as the a24 south, but within a few miles this fell apart due to heavy traffic, roundabouts, junctions so there were small bands of bmws travelling all kinds of different routes with some actually going north to london...
my wife and i ended up in brighton in the end but was so frustrated by the journey that we had a meal and came home.. apparently about 50 cars did find the end destination but all in all it was a massive fail...
