Pothole Damage

Post by Avtar » Mon Feb 18, 2013 9:39 am

Had just picked up the wifes 330 from Jason, driving back and hit a big pothole that stretched across both sides of the road, hard to avoid, has damaged the wheel and tyre. Does anyone have guidance on how nest to claim from the council?

Had the same done to our E36 and it 'splayed' a wheel.  SWMBO didn't react quick enough but it holed the tyre too.  Wheel cost £80 to be fixed by a local expert who works on Aston Martin wheels.

You definitely need photographs for evidence, and then contact the Local Authority Highways Department.  Some roads fall under Local Authority and others under Highways Agency, and it's not easy to work out which is covered by who!!

Photo's ideally should have a tape measure/scale in the image (and readable) to show size and depth of the 'hole' and damage to the car.

Richard is correct in his advise, but this does mean folk may have to put themselves in extreme danger getting the required photos!  >:(

I claimed for a wheel about 2 years ago from a council in surrey and it took 14 months to get any payment
from them, but thay did pay out in full.
So keep pushing it with them and dont take no for an answer  8)

Have chased them twice to contact me about the damage, no luck so far but they filled the hole within 4 days.
