Hi All,
This is my first post, so would like to say hi to everyone
I have a 2003 E53 - 3.01
I have had the wing mirror glass stolen from the Passenger side and when they stole the glass they also ripped off the mouting plate that is connected to the motor that affixies to the backing plate of the glass.
When they stole this they also have damaged something on the mirror housing as it is now loose and wobbles.
A neighbour see this and got the number plate of the kids in the car who stole it and the police have done nothing!!!!!.
I have searched everywhere for a replacement motor mounting plate but it is not listed in the parts cat, and the BMW parts dept have advised they dont seel that part on its own and I will need to buy the motor repair Kit.
I have been advised by BMW that I have the version of Mirror that is heated with seat memeory and auto reverse dip..... so baseiclaly the £160 version of the repair kit or the £310 pound version for a whole replacement unit.
Questions if anyone can help please
1. Does anyone know of anywhere other than a breakers where I can buy a new motor mounting plate on its own. ( I have tried lots of breakers and they wont strip the mirror if they have one)
2. Does anyone know If I buy the repair motor kit how easy this is to fit or is this a garage job.
3, Does anyone know If I buy the non memory repair Kit at £60 would I be able to strip the mounting plate off of this and attach to my car.
4. Does anyone know if I have to replace like for like on the full Mirror unit as I can source a new heated Mirror Unit quite cheap but it is not seat memory and is not auto dip, will this be OK to fit or will it cause problems for the actual seat memory funtion in the car.
Any help much appreciated as trying to put this right as cheaply as possible..
PS: if you hear of anyone selling a mirror and it still has

Hi update on the situation,
I have noticed that when they have pulled the mirror off and the fixing plate, they have actually broke the motor.
So my next question is do I need to replace like for like and but the heated seat memory or can I downgrade this just buy the headed wing mirror' it will save me about £150 if I can.

Hi all another update
I took the mirror apart and managed to get the motor working again.
Whilst apart I could see where the damage had been done that now made the mirror unit loose and I managed to do a workaround on this too, so nice and tight now, but mirror cannot be folded in manually now but much better than having it very loose.
I also worked a soloution to affix the mirror glass directly to the motor and bypass the missing fixing plate for now.
It moves ok not,but not as much movement as if affixed to the plate but all in all at least I have a mirror for the moment and it is not loose and I have not had to shell out £300+ because of some thieving kids nicking mirrors so they can sell for a tenner or whatever...
Will continue in my search for a motor fixing plate to get things back to how it should be.

Forum members have posted a link to the Chinese company that makes the spare parts for the mirrors.
