Re: Anyone got an Andrive Headunit for their X5??
I think if you have the nav you need the 5 metre cable which they also sell..It runs into the back.
Re: Anyone got an Andrive Headunit for their X5??
If you have factory nav you need 5mrtre cable that he sells for £49 I believe and also a replacement boot handle/camera for the same price

Maybe it's worth inviting the guy from Andrive to discuss the unit?

Not sure if they will come here. I did mention it to them on the phone, but they said that usually you need to sponsor a forum before you sell on there? Is it the same here? LOL...sorry noob :O
Re: Anyone got an Andrive Headunit for their X5??
Just dropped him a PM on the bmw5 forum about this exact thread

Re: Anyone got an Andrive Headunit for their X5??
I am seriously in the market for a new headunit (Bonus month this month), albeit a Andrive, Dynavin, Hualingan, etc. and like when buying the X5, have specific requirements of which most need to be meet.
Do you have to adapt the fixing bracket inside the dashboard to hold this unit? similar to other replacement head units?
Is the device plug'n'play, connects directly to the existing wireing loom?
Have you fixed the 3G issue as per your you tube video?
Does the device support USB hard drives (mp3 storage)?
Any moves towards getting DAB support?
Does the unit have a output feed to allow the freeview\DVD's to show on headrest TV's?
Does the unit have an input feed to accept a feed from an aftermarket DVD player?
Does the unit support the onboard computer?
Does the unit support parking sensors?
Does the device support a reversing camera?
When using the X5's SatNav, are you using the SatNav drive or just the antenna?
Is the device GUI skinable? for those that like to software mod?
Does the device support the steering wheel controls?
Does the device support the 6 disk CD changer?
Think that covers it, but guys, feel free to add anymore.

From the horses mouth (or rather PM system)
Thanks for the heads up on that, we will try and have a look in due course and check all OK with the forum owner first.
Hi Everyone.
This thread has been brought to our attention by a couple of members here, so we thought we ought to chime in..
Mods, Admin, if we are not allowed to post here, please let us know as we don't want to rock any boats. O:-)
The best place to start is with the list of questions dark stranger just posted
Do you have to adapt the fixing bracket inside the dashboard to hold this unit? similar to other replacement head units?
No, no modification is needed as the E39 specific unit is single din, with a E39 specific face, similar to the OEM head units. The fixing bracket or 'cage' is left in place without modification.
Is the device plug'n'play, connects directly to the existing wireing loom?
100% plug and play.
Have you fixed the 3G issue as per your you tube video?
I think the video you mention is the old 2.3 version. These are totally new and the best way to connect via £G is wirelessly through your mobile, though 3g dongles now work flawlessly.
Does the device support USB hard drives (mp3 storage)?
Yes, currently running a 1TB Western Digital drive full of Mp3 and movies via the rear usb port on our in house test unit. Works a treat.
Any moves towards getting DAB support?
Not DAB as such, but many digital radio stations are available via the built in DVB-T Tuner.
Does the unit have a output feed to allow the freeview\DVD's to show on headrest TV's?
Yes, they have dual RCA audio/video outputs
Does the unit have an input feed to accept a feed from an aftermarket DVD player?
Yes, it has a single video in for anything you may want to add (console etc, and another for CCD reversing camera.
Does the unit support the onboard computer?
Not natively, but it can via the Torque app and use of a wifi OBD2 dongle.
Does the unit support parking sensors?
Not currently, but with a future firmware update, yes.
Does the device support a reversing camera?
As above, yes.
When using the X5's SatNav, are you using the SatNav drive or just the antenna?
It completely bypasses the OEM nav. you can install tomtom, igo, etc directly on the unit via the android OS.
Is the device GUI skinable? for those that like to software mod?
The android OS is prerooted, meaning you can mod to your hearts content.
Does the device support the steering wheel controls?
Yes, there is a canbus adapter included which will allow steering controls.
Does the device support the 6 disk CD changer?
No, the cd changer becomes redundant.. but add a 1TB drive, and who needs it?
I hope this helps!
I can confirm that we would be happy to offer the discount of £59 for a group order.

Some good responses there! Quite happy I decided on this now...can we get the group buy going? Ive just asked a few more questions on the phone with Phil, and the guy has been really helpful! Makes me feel secure in knowing that we can call with any queries and have a chat. Phil has told me about some great things you can do with the android side. Im excited now!!
One of the main things I wanted to know was if I could tether it to my iphone for internet access via wifi, and you can, so that's great news!
There must be some others that want one of these!
Get in on the group buy and save £59 also, want to get to 5 so I can order mine ASAP lol

I saw this asked elsewhere and you have to bypass it with a seperate third party amp.

Re: Anyone got an Andrive Headunit for their X5??
Yes, its a swap out. If you already have OEM nav you will need a 5 metre cable which we provide to run to the rear of the car where the unit connects. This is because OEM nav cars have all of the system in the boot where the DVD drive is. This is all bypassed.
Re: Anyone got an Andrive Headunit for their X5??
Heres a little video we made to show the basic android interface and system.
