Looking good.

What's the story with the little toy car making an appearance in the interiors shots?

Does the X5 have an 85ltr fuel tank, same as the X6?  If so, then the range indication doesn't add up to the poor economy you are seeing.  I'm currently showing over 31 mpg with 300 miles covered, and a range of 250 with the tank just under half full.

it says 214 miles for less then half of the tank. Also yesterday, I went all the way to Swidon junction and back. it showed. 23.9 mpg. How does it sound?

Pretty sure I have seen the figure of 85L tank for the X5 somewhere in my paperwork/spec info.

Well, if your tank is showing 214 miles to empty with 3/8ths of fuel.  Which would suggest a range of 570 on that tank, assuming your driving has been consistent.  This equates to around 30 mpg.  Well worth doing a check manually just incase the OBC is under reading.

You might be right. It show 390 on a full tank.

I use Road Trip HD on my iPad to make it easy when working out the economy.  Has a lot more features if you are inclined, but an accurate mpg figures is all I'm real after.

I think I have been lucky with my other cars. figures advertised and what i got where not that different. I am actually a BMW fan but This fuel discrepancy is just not like what I am used to. After reading all comments I do not think it will improve much. I regret not buying X 5 M model.

With respect,  you say you're concious of the environmental implications of the 40d & projected MPG as quoted by BMW not matching up to their quoted figures, but then say yoiu wish you'd bought the X5M ...  which is a about as unenvironmentally friendly as you can buy?  The 40d is the best car I've owned in 25 years & I really don't give a damn about the media driven environmental drivel..... Afterall, in comparison to the UK - China and India account for approx 75% percent of the worlds pollution, so all 20 millon UK cars won;t make that much difference in 20 years, in comparison.

Back to the car.  I've had my 61 plate 12 months, i was achieving 22 MPG when I collected the car.  I now get 26  around town & 37ish on motorway at 60mph.    The real world BMW figures are misleading I agree & I too was disappointed with MPG when I first got the car, but the extra fuel has maybe cost me another 150 GBP over 12 months.
