After a lengthy but slow trip last night in own to -5degrees C car started vibrating and losing power. >:(

Thought may be frozen MAF or similar
Looked this morning and had "rough Idle" and "fuel rail boost pressure" faults!!

Car still rough.  Moved it (after jump starting as left ignition on for too long whilst diagnosing.) and noticed patch of fluid on ground.
Looking underneath it was dripping from the inspection hatch in the bottom cover... Though Oh Hell the gearbox seal & pump had gone..

Moved car and had a sniff to find it's diesel so thinking its either a split hose dropping rail pressure, a failed return line or a nadged injector....

Will be ripping the bottom and top covers off this weekend and having a butchers..

Know you're more than capable but not nice in this weather. Hope it's a quick diagnosis and cheap fix buddy.

Well think i've sussed it..

After a sunny start and progressing through showers, wind and hail...

Appears to have been 2 separate coincidental issues..

Vibration / noise due to one bolt on the torque convertor working loose and catching on a fillet on the rear of engine.. Tightened and thats gone now..

Diesel was coming from a loose connection on the plastic feed pipe where it connects before it supplies the main fuel rail (hard to describe but there is a block under the inlet manifold with the feed, return and connection to the main fuel rail) Changed the jubilee clip and seems to have solved that.


Onward to the next issue.......

how did you manage to tighten up a t/c bolt? did you have to remove the gearbox?

There are 3 bolts holding the torque convertor to the flex plate.
They are accessed by removing the rubber bung in the flywheel cover plate on the drivers side.

(bolts are item 5 of :-http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=11&fg=20

plate is item 9 of :- http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=11&fg=10)

Needs to be done from underneath and is a pain in the neck..

Bit breezy and when it hailed it was bouncing along the bottom and hitting me on the head... :'(
