EML with Lpg conversion

Post by lynxjock » Wed Jan 23, 2013 6:49 pm

Anyone know how to turn off the EML with LPG fitted, EML has only been on since the conversion, if its an easy fix I will do it, otherwise will probably not bother, any help appreciated :-)

get your self the bmw 1.4.0 scanner for £20 and you can turn it off so will pay for itself the first time you use it and then you have it for all future use

......especially as it's now an MOT failure to have that light on.  Can't help with the answer, but surely it should not be tripped anyway?

My mate works at main dealer and he said every LPG conversion he has seen has had the EML on, I think it's because the emissions are under the normal amount so the car thinks the lambda sensor is knackered. This car has been MOT'd with the light on and passed

Looks like the EML light 'fail' has been deferred for 'further discussions with the Motor Industry'....probably because of what you and other LPG conversions have experienced which is not a fault as much as a 'feature' of the conversion.  Every day's a school day....... :)

ABS & SRS lights are in now though.

my old x5 didnt have the light on with lpg, however it would maybe come on once every 3 months and go off on its own, i think your right though with your theory of why its on ;)

Tomorrow I'm off to a new Lpg installer to have the tank removed so I can sort the ICE out in the car, will have a chat with them to see if they have any thoughts or theories on it

I get the occasional EML with mine but it goes out pertty quickly so I am assuming its just finding a random missfire. Otherwise no problems on gas. I did chnge the O2 sensors recently but I believe thety should be done at about 80000 anyway....?

Had the LPG tank out for a few days now to sort a new battery and full ICE replacement, EML not come on at all and have driven about 450 miles so far, the LPG installer who removed it for me has said he will try to sort it out when he puts it back in on Monday, seemingly a road test with the Laptop plugged into the system will hopefully sort it out :-)

Your problems down to the LPG system. You will probably find that the reducer pressure is down so the engine ecu is compensating for the reduced pressure by increasing the injection period. It will only do this to a certain level before logging a "mixture adaption at  maximum" or similar fault.

Bottom line get the gas tuned.

As long as the LPG is tuned correctly there shouldn't be any problems, the plugs need changing more often with lpg.
