Possible E70 4.8 purchase

Post by psychosis » Sun Jan 13, 2013 8:09 pm

I must have looked at 12 cars before I even took one for a test drive when I was buying mine. Admittedly not main dealer but I phoned every dealer to check the car was available, and as described, so I wouldn't be wasting mine and their time. The condition of some of the cars was appalling and the only thing worse was the attitude of some of the dealers when problems were highlighted. Fortunately I was in no hurry to buy and eventually got the car with spec and condition I was looking for :)

Right folks, it's official, BMW AUC are crap !!

I've just seen my second one, nearly 200 mile round trip, two weeks of e-mails and phone calls to leave the dealer, Snows of Portsmouth, in no doubt that I wanted one with no poor bodywork repairs.
Anyway, more of my time wasted today, 3 out of the four corners had a poor 'smart repair' the alloys also were refurbed to a poor standard, all this for £22K, they must be joking !!!

The whole top surface of the car had the feel of overspray having settled on it, the salesman played dumb as they all do.
I am now going to e-mail BMW UK to get some money back on petrol for the trip as these guys are a bunch of sodding monkeys.

Think I'll either try 'dodgey John motors' or give up on the idea all together. One thing for sure, the saying 'a fool and his money are easily parted' is true with these owners if they can accept a sh*t repair like this on a sixty grand motor.

I certainly feel your pain......what a waste of fuel and time.

I will stick up for the odd dealer......got my e70 from Sytners in Cardiff and i live in london.  Had seen the car on AUC agreed a price and paid a deposit.  Paid the full whack before going to pick it up.  Got the train down on a saturday morning and have to say was really happy with the car.  Gave it a good check over and other that a couple of stone chips on the body and an interior that smelt like an ashtray the car was all good and true.

All in all a really good experience which makes it even worse to hear about yours.

Probably best when you speak to the dealers tell them that you have had 2 wasted trips and that if they are going to waste your time you will be getting hold of the MD of the dealership and will be writing to BMW so best not f**k you around to start with.

Best of luck in your hunt though

Thanks for the replies, I insisted to the last dealer, Snows, that I wouldn't accept crap yet they still saw fit to waste my time and money, they must be that desperate !!

Anyway, just found the e-mail address of the Managing Director of BMW UK and sent him some comments on the actions of his dealerships. Wait to see his comments, I don't mess and always go to the top  :)

My search is 'national' on the BMW AUC, I don't mind travelling, I ask all the right questions yet these scum still think it's OK to waste my time and money, p*ssed off doesn't really cover it at the moment.

Still, I'll have great joy when the latest sales guy phones next week for feedback, I'll tell him that his UK MD will be giving it to him soon  :)

Don't hold your breath....BMW GB are little better than useless too.

If you're lucky some phone drone might call you back and offer platitudes but not accepting any responsibility and might just 'look into it' after which you'll hear nothing more.

Yeah, as you say some lacky will send me a standard e-mail trying to comfort me, the thing is I'm like a dog with a bone and enjoy rattling them, sort of hobby of mine when things go wrong  :)

Really sorry to hear about this. I feel very fortunate with how smoothly we got our E70.

I have experienced the highs and lows of AUC in the past. It's a bit of a lottery.

Was the Snows one a 3.0d, if so we almost looked at that car but was told it had sold. This was 2 weeks ago though.

No, it was a Space Grey 4.8i SE, there was a black 3.0 parked next to it and at a quick glance it too was far from perfect.
Maybe you had a lucky escape?

Thanks. The one I was going to see was silver, so different car.

Doesn't matter as I am so happy with the one we have.

Hope you find a suitable car.

Hi guys,

its been a while since i let my x go, still have the van but the business is going well.

Just a thought...... We are all spread out over the country.

Just an example I drove past snows in Portsmouth yesterday, would have been more than happy to stick my head in and give you an opinion on body work etc.

One good thing about this site is people really do seem to care about their cars.  Members are honest and to the point so I would expect any wasted trips will end.

If people can help it generally seems they will.

Good luck with the search, Stew.
