3.0d Economy Re-map

Post by B1G JV » Tue Jan 15, 2013 4:04 pm

afternoon gents....... has anyone had an economy re-map on their 3.0d?  and if so have they noticed any reduction in performance?

I want a few more mpg out of mine, I suppose I was spoiled with my 530d MSport getting 39 to 48mpg on a run and my X5 3.0d getting an average of 28 mpg (I've really tried to be as light footed as you possibly can and  played with different speeds etc.. on the motorway drive, I'm yet to see the mpg meter register over 32.8mpg)

I'll get the car re-mapped by Jason, but I want to know what the best option for a map is. Power/no mpg gain, less power/mpg gain, or what about the power/eco tune, is this the best of both worth? can it really be possible, i hope so,.

Well remember to keep us informed on how you find the fuel economy once mapped.  What did Jason advise as the best way to go for you to achieve the best mpg?

So........ I went to Jason's place last night, top bloke as mentioned numerous times here, it was bloody freezing and my toes were numb by the end of it!!!

Anyhoo, I opted for the power/mpg remap, best of both worlds!

It's too early to report on the fuel economy due to only driving about 15 miles since having it done, but the performance is a noticeable change, the car feels much more responsive, it's away like a shot at the slightest touch of the pedal, it kicks down so much quicker and easier, and from lights/roundabouts that lag/hesitation you sometimes get seems to be gone!!

So far, power/drivability gets a

Fuel economy gets a  :hmmm: until I do more miles.......

Well it seems I need to re learn how to drive the x5 already! ITS DEFINITELY more powerful, more responsive and better to drive, however I need to be really light on the pedal!!! Althouth I'd never seen more than 32.8mpg in the 2 to 3 weeks I've owned it, I'd also never seen less than 17mpg, until today!!!

This morning, my usual route to work I saw it down to 7mpg.... averaged out at 14 odd mpg over a short 4 mile journey in London but it was cold and some traffic. Usual was 18 to 23 mpg. My 840city gets more!! Ha ha  :))  HOWEVER I put it down to my inability to press the pedal the right amount  ;)  driving again tonight I was seeing 7, 8, 13 mpg butthis is because I was resetting the obc every 10 mins  :)) then booting it  O:-)  Jason told me to go out and sit at some steady speeds, so, just back in and:

A40 driving at 50 mph with cruise on, guess what I saw?  49 mpg!!!!!!!!! This was 1st mile obc reading :o after a few hills and 5 miles it levelled out at 42!!!! Unbelievable!!!!! Gone is my 32.8 max visualisation, then through the 40 zone I sat at 42 mph with the cruise on, came off on to the Hanger lane roundabout and on to 406, finally stopped with car on 38.7mpg

Anyhoo, that's a relatively short journey at slow speeds, tomorrow I'm driving 290 miles up north and looking forward to the acid test, I know I have previously returned 28 to 32mpg on the run

Averages over the next week will be the tell tale, I've done 1100 miles prior to remap with an overall 27.7mpg. I think I'll reset consum 2 from tomorrow

Just reporting, looking promising  :)

Ok, so 600 miles completed, the snow has also had a big influence so not really like for like yet!  the journey up on Friday was really slow and yet returned 31mpg rather than the previous 32.8mpg. Can't compare exactly due to snow.
Journey down, usually 3am with a clear run at a good average speed, again hampered by snow!!!  returned 31.7mpg.  inclusive of the door to door runs over the weekend the average is at 30mpg compared to previous 27.7mpg, however very little round the doors driving.

Round the doors the mpg seems a lot less........... jury is still out on economy, hopefully can have a snow free journey this next weekend.

As for drivability and power, it's 10/10 so far.

I'm thinking of getting mine done when the AUC warranty expires, but over 19k miles, I'm averaging 31.3mpg. On a 200 mile run with cruise set at 80, the fuel consumption is geting close to 35, hence my interest and wondering if it's worth it from a consumption point of view.

I've had my mine just over 2 years and got Jason to re-map it basically on my first visit over to UK .
Before the re-map , the daily school run I was getting 26-28 mpg , afterwards 27-29 mpg , so not
too much change .
On a run before I was getting max 33 mpg , no matter how careful I was with the accelerator .
However , afterwards , it's much better . If I use cruise at 145 kmh from here to Calais I get 36-38 mpg .
If I set cruise on 135 kmh then I can get over 40 mpg . Best I've had was 42.9 over 800 kms Lux to
Wolves . I've had over 1000 kms from 1 tank .

And performance wise , it's much better . Even Jason was surprised . He said it was already quicker
standard than all the other's he'd re-mapped , but afterwards was even better .

It's well worth having a re-map done , and Jason's the guy to do it for you  ;D

It seems some others have much better results than me. I was hopeful when I got in the 40's last week, but this was literally getting up to speed, hitting reset, driving slow with cruise on. I can't replicate it since then.

Daily drives, trying my best not to touch the pedal at all and rolling everywhere, I'm seeing 20mpg now :(  was 23mpg while booting it everywhere.  If I boot it (well, drive normally for me!) around the doors and in between lights etc.. I'm seeing 11 to 14mpg.........  this is less than my M5 used to get, and less than my 840Ci, in fact it's less than my old 4.4i X5 Sport................

Does anyone else get this low an mpg when booting it around?  I think I need to drop Jason a line, seems too far off the mark to be right :(

i had a eco remap on a range rover td6 and the mpg went up by about 4/5mpg but after about ten days it went back to normal abit maybe 1mpg more but certainly not noticeable..i dont think my remap did anything except reset the gearbox hence the initial increase in mpg..
this is mine , x5 e70 2007 msport

3.0d Economy Re-map

Post by ITBarbie » Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:17 pm

Hi

I must be well over a year in now since my remap from Jason and I have seen an improvement in mpg.  Not sure if you were doing the same as me but I got do paranoid after having the remap I also had it completed in the winter and kept resetting the OBC so reading always fluctuated.  Again I got silly mpg readings in snow of 7.

Average now in the winter sits at 24mpg and this is London and fairly short journeys.  This goes up to 26 in summer and if I take it on the motorway I can get  37 if I don't reset every 5 mins.  This is an improvement on what I had before and it's due a service tomorrow so should see an improvement.

I don't drive like a nutcase but at the same time don't drive like a granny! Jason will happily have a look if you still have concerns I'm sure :-)
