Boot won't close

Post by Reedler » Mon Jan 21, 2013 10:07 am

Hi All,

Nightmare!!!! Heavy snow this morning and boot won't close. It's been opening and closing during driving on and off now for 4 weeks. Thought it was getting better untill this morning. Bottom part off boot works fine, but the top part is now open all the time. Any idea's please.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks X15. I thought that too. But latch is moving freely, put a little bit of wd40 on it and it seems to be moving fine. When I lock the car there is no noise coming from the boot to lock it at all, fuses seem to be fine aswell. Sounds like a garage job.

Could be water ingress affecting the micro switches inside tailgate opener. Can get in through licence plate bulb covers.

Just had two weeks of getting mucked about from our local garage and also from Warranty Direct forgetting to call us to tell us they are not covering it. Turns out it is the micro switch that is playing up, got a quote of £400 from local garage to fix boot along with the passenger door handle ( only opens from the inside). I have already fixed the drivers door handle so I should manage the passenger one, is the boot micro switch an easy fix???? Also have a busted connections running to the reg plate light (left side) which has moisture in it. My X5 hates the frost and rain, time to move to the Sahara I think 8)

Hi Reedler

It is possible to repair it with a bit of patience and a lot of Dremel cutting discs

Replacement microswitches are available from Maplin

Have a read of this thread

http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/https://xdr ... 428#p14428

It cost me about £10 and has been fine since (2 years)
