@mogsyman, switching off the dsc will send power to all the wheels which most times helps in slippery conditons like snow and wet grass....leave it on and if one wheel starts slippering then the dsc sends the power to the others resulting in nothing going to the slipping wheel....

Glad yours works well in the snow with the 20's. I felt that when I got my Toyo's for the E53. New tyres had 8mm.

Now though, with only 2-3 mm of tread gone (so 5ish left) I don't want to risk it!

I have Pirelli Snow & Ice Scorpians with 6mm all round and though they feel good (no DSC lights on the dash) I can't really work out what's so great about em ???

I think I'm driving like I never had em on the car (well within their limits). Not sure...

What does that actually do?

On a slight slope the car had no traction, would pressing that button made a difference?
[/quote]
Something clever with the brakes and power.....it's still part of the overall DSC system, but is supposed to control wheelspin or summat like that.....

DTC Dynamic Traction Control
DTC is a version of DSC in which the drive output is optimized for particular road conditions, e.g. unplowed snow-covered roads. The system assures the maximal drive output, but with reduced driving stability. It is therefore necessary to drive with appropriate caution.
You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC under the following special circumstances:
> When driving in sand, on snowy inclines, in slush or on unplowed, snow-covered road surfaces
> When rocking a stuck vehicle free or starting off in deep snow, sand or on loose ground
> When driving with snow chains

And if going downhill you could have engaged 'duck' mode going down.....(Hill Descent Control - and my Mum thinks the symbol looks like a duck  )

No trouble at all running around today with the winters on.......felt much like normal.......turned the DTC /DSC totally off and within a few meters turned it all back on.......as mentioned best left for the empty car park  :)

mine has 20'' Bridgestone RFT 5mm. Was pretty happy with the performance in the snow today. Obviously not as good as winters but I had expected them to be pretty bad and they weren't.

Was very unsure of the whole winter wheels and tyres malarkey but I was really impressed. Driving completely like normal as if on my Alpina's. no traction control kicking in, etc and decent driving speeds with no loss of grip.

Am quite surprised though mogsyman it was really that bad. Thought it might spin a little but still move as per sort of normal.

Well the snow has showed at last, although only a few inches!  X had no issues, and as others have posted, performed much the same as if no snow.
