just popped up as a error message tonight!!

whats that all about is it going to be expensive??

car feels and drives normal!

When my car was new, I had that a load of times until they finally updated the software. So in my case, it was just software version. Never had it again since the update.

I have heard that disconnecting the battery and resetting the car as such (after 15 minutes), will clear it as well.

I've heard of the message popping up and then going out and nothing more.

But then on my 4.8 I had this and have had to replace the Air suspension control unit, acctuator, valve and the air pump (compressor) itself to sort it. Total cost was £2.2K......

See if it goes out by itself. If not then try a battery reset. If still no joy, then could be something like a sensor hopefully.

Lol n'ah, not trying to. Tbh mine was a bit of an extreme case. Plus I have air suspension front and back so a bit more problematic.

I'm sure yours will be something a lot more simple.

Millerman, this is quite a common occurance and indeed came on several times on my previous 'X' each time I checked the level of the vehicle and all seemed fine i.e. not low on one side or front to back. Each time just switched of the ignition and restarted and the error message was no more.

A bit late but I've only just noticed this topic (i've started another thread) . My self level inactive warning came on this evening but cleared itself after i turned ignition on and off. Thinking about it further though, my wife was sat in the back last week with my little boy and she complained that it was really bouncy - hoping the two aren't linked and that it doesn't turn up again!

Out of interest, how can you tell if the self level is in fact working properly? Does it raise slightly or anything when you turn the ignition on?

I got this message last year but it cleared itself - last week it came back and will not go. The car is level and not dropped on any corner, the fuses are intact. Symptoms - compressor kicked in for ages last week, and only went off 30 seconds after key had been removed, warning has been on dash since. Now and again the compressor kicks in for short periods, so don't think pump or bags at fault, but could it be the sensors??

Saw a post elsewhere that a guy found the cigarette lighter fuse blown and replacing it sorted all suspension warnings but think that was coincidence. Strangely my cigarette lighters don't work but the sockets do????? the fuse is intact so that aint going to be my quick fix.

Anyone have ideas on how to check sensors - DIY possible?

I've had this message pop pop up several times in the past couple of years too. Never found any issues with the suspension either??? The message just resets on a restart. Strangely, it has always happened on very cold days and as my battery is not the strongest, I've always put it down to an electrcial gremlin due to lower than expected voltage.... clutching at straws but it's all I have. Anyone else noticed more error message from controls during cold weather?

Guys just got "self level susp inact" on the the check control funny thing is the 4.4 seems to sit right and doesn't seem to be bouncy, could this be an easy electrical fix or something more expensive?
I'm just having an oil cooler fitted to my e39 528i which will cost just under £500 not a good start to the new year, so really don't need the X being a money pit?

hopefully just a glitch or the cold weather, mine has not showed the error since october! (touches lots of wood....lol)
