gmc15.......... where does the snow usually last best in Durham?  or what i mean to say is ............ where do all the cars get stuck when we have a few flurries?  Scumderland isn't too bad; but it is now laying here so should be fun tomorrow!    ::)

I am near the East coast and the villages are quite bad, with a few inches of snow. A19 OK this morning but side roads poor. Had some good fun this morning in my old Suzuki 4 x 4 :)

I've never tried driving in the snow with the wide wheels on.  Will you get traction, yes.  Will you get up snow covered hills with ease, unlikely.  Where I foresee a problem is once on the move, cornering and stopping will be severely impaired due to the width and pattern of the tyres.  Plan you route to stay to main (gritted) roads as much as possible and when on snow/ice covered roads, keep momentum when climbing and when descending/turning, do very slowly, using the gears to control your speed not the brakes.

If you can find an open patch of clear ground like a deserted car park, take the time to explore the available traction, stopping and cornering effects.

You'll get to know me!

The empty car park bit is fun though. It is a fantastically controllable car to drift with its rear wheel drive bias.

We have some big wide roundabouts near us so I was drifting around them. Luckily the copper in the Shogun police car was ok with this!

As Don says the stopping is the big one and it scared the shit out of me a couple of times and I've done loads of training courses !!

Matiz will be way the forward for sure, bet hardly anything will stop it

I'm looking forward to getting te Audi out in it if it comes because it has some clever adjustable slippy diffs.

With the 21s on traction is appalling and grip is non existent really, most unsafe car I've driven in the cold on the Dunlops, even the standard 19s I had were an improvement, superb with winters on though :D

Done did that last night with 20" wheels. I can assure you that wide tyres on snow/ice combo helps a lot on perfect doughnuts.. But it was fuuunn;)

Wife's now getting cold feet ( excuse the pun!) and put the damper on the trip if the snow is still being forecast/arrives for Friday.  >:(. No sense of adventure.  :P

if you do out in the caravan and get stuck in the snow, at least you'll have somewhere cozy to sleep...
