Painting - opinions please
Moving house next week and need to paint 6 rooms by myself but fast. Is the good old paint roller still king or should I go down the route of paint pods with attached hose and brush thingy or even one of the paint sprayers (as the house will be completely empty so no need to worry about stray spray!)????

Spray. I would consider hiring as these will be better quality. As a rule spraying will put a thinner coat on the walls so my need more coats, but will be much much quicker and drying times will be quicker as well. It will however take longer to mask off, cover windows, doors, skirting board etc. but as you have six rooms it will still be far quicker and no where near as fatiguing.
Don
Just to confirm, you need a High Volume Low Pressure HVLP system.

I do the edges with a small (2") brush and the good old roller for the larger areas - with an extension handle for the stairwell. Even used a roller to put stain on the outside wood planks (supposed to make a 1999 house look like a farmhouse according to the builder.. ??? ) and it worked surprisingly well..... . Not allowed up ladders see, well not 'officially' anyway.

do these paint pads actually work or do you need special pink paint (as seen on tv }

Very tempted to go for spray as I'll be doing two ceilings which have very intricate cornicing (from 1874) which'll be a nightmare to paint by brush.

Sprayer all the way for me and no brush marks either, this method uses less paint too, got a mate with his own decorating business and most of the time its all he uses!

So I've hired the sprayer.... Now can't get it to work. No paint coming through at all. Have thinned it and thinned it so definitely not that. This is the gun I have, the gold coloured bit at the bottom goes into the little paint pot that attaches to the gun. I assume there should be some sort of suction from the end of this bit when it's running? Not getting anything at all just now..... Or will there be no suction because the pot isn't attached?
Can anyone help?

Hi Chief,
Put some water in the pot and attach. If no water comes out then it certainly isn't the paint thinkness. The black knob at the top rear is used to regulate the amount of liquid to air mix, so try opening this to see if that helps.
The knurled knob directly above the black grip controls the amount of spray that comes out when pressing the trigger. Don't have this open too much until you get comfortable with it. Better to under spray than over spray.
Hopefully this will help.
oh ye have little faith!!!!! You are correct though...... D'oh!
Turns out that on the wee plastic tube connecting the pot to the gun there is a non-return valve and someone (not me!) had connected it upside down so no air was getting to the pot. The air goes via this tube into the pot pushing the paint up the gold coloured tube into the gun. Got it working to a fashion but pretty rubbish. Might have to rethink my paint if I want to keep using it....

Get the roller out mate the good old fashion way its the best way by the time you've got it going/used to it you could have done it all.
its being seriously considered. I'm ahead of the game plan wise so today was a bonus painting day so still on track. If I can get it working well then it'll save me hassle in the long run but I ain't spending much more time trying!

Looks like an HVLP sprayer isn't ideal for emulsion - an airless sprayer looks like the way to go.....
