Post Fit Options

Post by toneus » Sun Jan 13, 2013 7:45 am

Does anybody know if there is a list of which options for X5 E70 are available post factory?

Am awaiting delivery (counting down to Friday ), but didn't opt for running boards, and now the missus is thinking we should have them  ::)

I'd be intersted to know if 3rd row seating can be installed at a later date??  :-\

I'm sure you can add running boards (to an SE model only), but be aware that some don't like them complaining that they get your trousers dirty on entry.  3rd row seating installation would be prohibitively expensive - due to variations that come with it (3rd row heating controls/vents, 2nd row slides / tilts, grab handles etc).

I'd forgotten about that. I used to have the same on a Disco I had a few years back, getting back home to find you'd been walking around all day with dirt on the back of your trousers  :)

It was really for the 2 kids to be able to get in and out easier, but I'll guess they'll cope.

Thanks for the heads up on the rear seats, I was wondering if they could just be bolted in later (I don't need them hence couldn't justify the £1400 option ) but thought in hindsight may be better for future resale. Anyway, have more need for the bigger boot space.

You can also go to  Realoem and select the car type you've ordered.  In each section you can find the officially available retrofit kits.

As said rear seats need major mods, and not just to the interior, but also to the body & chassis as it needs various mods for safety and structural loads.

Side steps are certainly possible.....but not cheap.

No idea if they would fit but I have 6 week old running boards removed from my X6 M50d (replaced with BMW Performance ones).  If you want to look up part numbers you are welcome to make an offer if they fit.

I understand that heated front seats can be retro-fitted to seats without it, for around the same cost as ordering from the factory, dashboard buttons included.

I've ordered heated front seats, but this kind of info would have been really useful to know prior to placing the order. Any idea about the rear heated seats (which I didn't order)?

I don't see why not...here's the link that I saw.

I'm thinking of getting it done myself, my X5 has electric sports seats but they're not heated, which is a bit of shame at this time of year.
