no spare wheel?

in the space for the spare wheel i have an LPG tank.  so what do you do if you get a puncture? ............. walk?  ) whats that Tyre Magic stuff? i wonder what happened to the spare wheel which would have been there when the car was manufactured.

Tyre repair kit, bought one myself just in case.  Check youtube vids seem easily done and work.

I carry one of the above kits for larger punctures and also use Tyre Magic.  Prices vary wildly from £5 to £25 a bottle for much the same stuff.  I use the cheap stuff and it works great.  see here
I also carry a small 12 volt compressor to pump up the tyre if needed.

Hey,

I haven't got a spare either and I got a puncture when I was on the way out the Nurburgring.

I used Holts Tyre Weld. I bought it from Halfrauds quickly as I was going to miss my ferry.

It says on the can "temporary use only Max 50mph bla bla bla" but ignore that I took the car flat out round the Nurburgring and had no problems whatsoever  ) that was back in September and still have it in the tyre now lol.

The best thing about it was the tyre was pretty much new and the puncture was probably too close to the edge to be repaired so the fact this stuff cost me a tenner and saved me buying a new tyre makes it worth every penny.

As Dan says carry a small 12v compressor too as you will need that to pump the tyre up once the tyre weld/magic is in the tyre.

Interested to know if owners use tyre weld / alternative in run flats as well.  I've twice paid for a new tyres coutesy of nail then screw - on almost brand new tyre.  Felt like an unnecessary waste throwing a mint tyre away, and not sure I believe the excuse that these things can't be repaired for safety reasons.  That's surely a rationale promoted to sell more tyres.  These run flats have reinforced side walls to cope with a puncture so would have thought they would be safer than normal tyres to repair?

I had Bridgestone Runflats on my previous 3 Series and had a puncture took it to Kwikfit for a laugh and of course they said "Sorry sir you need a new tyre I just so happen to only have the most expensive tyre in stock, what are the chances aye!"

So I took it to a local tyre shop and they said shouldn't really repair runflats but I can patch it for you if you want.
I agreed and I think I got another year out of it no problems until it wore out. I agree the sidewalls are stronger so as long as you haven't driven loads of miles with it flat I think it should be fine to get it repaired if the garage offer.

I've had one RFT repaired successfully by a local supplier - with the same "we're not supposed to" comment.  Have not yet installed anything in the tyres as I have insurance for up to 5 tyres in three years.  After that I will probably install Puncturesafe, or similar.

Run flats can be repaired if they haven't been driven for too long because of te heat build up in the side walls.

I have a can in each of my cars as non have a spare tyre.

I hope to never have to use it.

I found it quite futile trying to persuade the tyre place to repairmy simple nail in RFT. How do you make them do it?!

I had my own mobile guy who was less black and white than the chains!

BMW dealer themselves also admitted it was possible.

Thanks for the comments.  Will get a can to put in the car, along with a compressor.  Are there any particular brands for both that considered best?

I know I keep harping on about tyre magic (need to arrange some commission!) but this stuff is really very good.  You put it in to the tyre before getting any punctures.  It just sits there waiting for a puncture and then rushes to repair any punctures instantly (so long as the car is moving) the wife turned up to work (builders) and on getting out heard the dreaded hissing air.  The tyre already had the tyre magic in so she just got back in to the car and drove up and down the road, puncture fixed......simples!
