It seems up to 2 million UK drivers have expired or out of date licences etc.....

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Driving Licence running out/not current any moret?
The pain I had to go through to get my first photo license once I moved ... I had to fly to NL to get a copy of a birth certificate (we don't get originals, only copies which are valid for 2 weeks (in case your birth date changes or something ????).
Not only do you have to go to your home country, you also have to go to the place you were born as you can only get the official extract from that town hall (modern databases ... right), a job I got my dad to do - so they had a nice day out driving for a number of hours to collect that bit of paper.
Armed with the paper, within the 14 days, I had to then get it send recorded etc to Swansea.
What a nightmare that was - biggest mistake I ever made was to change my Dutch license for a UK one ... (not to mention we don't get points on ours either). Still thinking about changing it back again as there is no longer a UK insurance requirement for a UK specific license.

What a nightmare. I could also easily imagine the response coming through after a few weeks 'please could you resubmit as unfortunately the application wasn't processed in time'.

Driving Licence running out/not current any more?
I stumbled across this a year or so ago. I had no idea the photocard had a shorter expiry than the paper license. When I mentioned this to friends and family, there were a few people whose cards had expired and they'd not had a reminder.

Still got the paper one! But should go for new one to correct address from parents ...
