Just picked up a 3.0sd

Post by DiscoX5 » Sat Jan 05, 2013 5:43 pm

Hi All,

Just picked up a 57 reg 3.0sd M Sport yesterday having come from an E53. Initial impressions are very good. Just got a few questions before I call the supplying dealer.

1. The car has bluetooth and the bluetooth voice control button on the steering wheel. However when I press the button nothing happens. i.e. I should get an audible tone at which point I say something but I never get the tone.

The dealer told me specifically that I can use the voice control with the bluetooth pairing and the sat nav. I can't find any voice control settings in the Idrive.

Am I doing something wrong? Is it possible that I don't infact have voice control and it is just a dummy button? Can it be retrofitted at dealer? They told me it had voice control so I will certanly expect them to sort it one way or another!

2. Steering is very heavy. Not a problem but just wanted to check this is normal as not driven any other E70's.

3. Idrive seems very slow to respond. I turn the knob and it can often take a few seconds to see a response on the screen. Is this normal? Can anything be done to improve it?

Many thanks!

I-drive can be brilliant or rubbish depending on how your car loves you! Seriously, sometimes it's superb, sometimes it's in it's own time zone.
Enjoy the car, especially if you go and get it chipped, twin turbos really do shift with a tune.  >:D

At that age they had the button but it was not activated as standard it was an option.

I know it can be programmed and relatively cheaply but I've never got on without on any manufacturers car.

Oh and the nav can be a bit clunky and slow sometimes, it is a 5 year old car don't forget and DVD based as opposed to the later HDD ones

Steering is heavier compared to the e53. Hope you like the car.  Love mine :). Be interested to know what economy you get out of yours.

Does the voice commands on 2011 cars work the same for the navigation system?

thanks all.

I will report back with MPG after i've used my first tank and will put a few photos up once its had a wash!

I have spoken to the dealer this morning who is now saying that it may not have voice control!!! They told me it did when I purchased the car. I had voice control on my E53 and found it worked very well so I am keen to have it on my E70. I just want it for the bluetooth phone - not bothered about 'extended voice control' for anything else.

The dealer does not think it can be retro fitted. Is this true? Has anyone had it done? Seems to me it shouldn't be too hard as I already have the button on the steering wheel and the microphone fitted!
