More Webo
More Webo
Hi!
I`m new on this foum, and after reading some treads I`m impressed of the level off "know how" and "how to"
Since my Webo faild, I`ve read nearly all post`s and treads regarding this subject. Wich lead me to that I tok the webo out of the car, dismatled it, cleand it and put it back in. The first start was a stroke back, but on the second try it worked, and it have worked since.
My car has the MID display (not NAVI), but in addition to that, on the left side of the steeringwheel (left wheel version) ther is a Standard Webasto-timer display. Both is working, and I can set the time or direct start the heater from both.
Any one else who has this solution?
The next step is a telestarter. Either GSM-based or the Cars System T91
http://www.carsystems.pl/bmw-webasto-te ... id182.html
Is this OE, or just "wanna be"??
When the webo is used as ha parkingheater, the heaterfan starts to blow, but i wold like to increase the speed of the fan. Is it possible to cange this setting?
After 20-25 min runtime on the Webo, the engine temp when start, is a bit above the blue area - is this normal? (I live in Norway and the last week we have had like - 13 C at night.....)
Since my car only have the MID, I`m considering a none orginale navi/radio sollution. Hauligan or similar. What happens with all the functions on the MID if changin to a none OE navi unit....?
Best regards

Re: More Webo
welcome!
glad you got yoru webo sorted, pleased u found all the info u wanted here
i've never heard of that webo timer/control display. maybe its standard on parking heater enabled cars. can you post a photo or 2, plus a link to that display unit on realoem?
re. remote - i would certainly recommend teh gsm remote.
re. the head unit replacement, you will lose the obc functionality. some keep the oem unit connected in teh glove box to serve this purpose. i haven't done this just saying what ive read..

Re: More Webo
Hi and XLoke,
Glad to have you on board and my I congratulate you on your English. Very impressive. really pleased that you were able to get the Webo sorted, you would certainly benefit from it in your part of the world. I was lucky enough to visit in 1987 and what a beautiful place it is.
Hopefully you may get the chance to do an introduction in the newbie section and include pictures of both your car and stunning country side.
It would also be interesting to hear your views and experiences on winter tyres.

Re: More Webo
Thank`s for the warm welcome
Below is a picture of the control unit. Its placed to the left of the steeringwhell. As soon as i get som daylight I will take picture inside of the car. The only differece between this and the OBC is that it has 3 differenst time settings vs 2 on the OBC, and I can not activate the ventilation function.
However......., this weekend I have had severals misfires on the Webo. The fuel level was low, but after refuling it faild the first time, but worked on the second try. Wich leads me to the following question;
Does the Webo "read" the fuellevel, or does it simply run dry on a certian level?
The Webo is clean, the glowplug is OK, the battery is new and ECU on the Webo is OK. So, what causes misfires >:(

Re: More Webo
Could be the webo overheating and shutting down as mine did until I fixed the electric auxiliary water pump. make sure you have water circulating when webo fires up. you can check this at the coolant filler neck.

Re: More Webo
when you say webo misfires, does it kick off with a wirring noise and start the water and air circulation, yet refuse to blow hot air from the webo silencer or does it not get activated at all?
as said, check the water circulation. if hte air circulation starts (wirring noise plus air from the webo exhaust) and water circulation starts (open the radiator cap and you'll see a jet of water coming out), yet webo doesn't get hot on the webo silencer and goes back to sleep then its either glow plug, pcb or fuel.
if webo doesn't respond at all its most prob battery voltage.

webo has an alternate fuel pick-up line in the tank and an alternate fuel pump. and it runs until it goes dry on it.
the webo fuel pickup is slightly higher in teh tank than the normal fuel pickup.. i suppose to ensure that the webo wouldn't run the tank down to the point that the car couldnt' start.
due to this reason bmw says its best not to use the webo when the fuel light is on (as webo may not work). in practice i have done this and had no problems.. bmw manual also says that when the fuel is low and the car is at an incline the webo fuel pickup point would be starved of fuel.

Re: More Webo
The reason for the "misfire" was lack of diesel. As soon as the fulegauge shows below 20 liter, the Webo dont start. "Misfire" is probaly a wrong description. It run`s the start procedure, but when it`s about start on step 2 of the heating it stops. After refuling the car it fail`s at least one more time before it`s enough diesel to make it run.
Yeasterday I mounted the T91 Telestart from www.carsystems.eu. And what did I discover when I was looking for the contector in the trunk as describe by Jaynana.....? The wiering from the Webasto display, conected on the cabel that goes directly to PIN 1 on the Webo
So, the Webasto display was not mounted when the car was new, but done some previus owner. For which reason i do not know. Newer the less, the T91 fitting was easily.
How evere, I was WERY disapointed this morning when the car was cold. Yesterday evening my wife used the car, and whit so many new buttons on the "key" my guess is that she pushed the "On"-button a thusand times or so and still the dam car wouldnt unlock........... >:(
My hope is that I will get it working again with the reset procedure.

Re: More Webo
Well, i didnt!! >:( Or I do the wrong reset procedure. Its "dead" - doesent make a sound! Power is ok (batteri is new), the tank is full, I have +12v on PIN 1 (for sure), but It's still dead.
This trouble started probably with repeatedly on/off, on/on - and I mean repeteadly!!!
This morning It's made 3 start attempts. It run's normally until it shall start to on step 2, then it goes in to stop procedure. After the 3rd start attemp, it went dead.
I have tried to reset by according to the Webo manuall, but does the BMW - versjon have a different procedure?
The Webo procedure is "on" if dead wait 15 sec., remove the fuse for 15sec., replace and "off" then wait 10sec an restart. I have also made the Webo powerless for a long periode, but it's still dead.
And of course, the wheather have turned fuc**** cold again

Re: More Webo
possibly a fault recorded in the car memory? if so it would prevent webo from even trying to start. i'm not sure if your reset procedure clears the car's memory (i don't know the reset procedure at all, as i used to reset with reslers software)
do you have access to a scanner to check the cars memory?

Re: More Webo
Nope - no accsess to scanner. The fuse 86 in the glowcompartment, is that for main power to the Webo.....?
Because, when I take out the main lead contact I also take away the -12V, wich mean that if the reset procedure demans -12v, and +12v on PIN1 I've might not have done this correctley. Or the BMW PCB have another procedure?

Re: More Webo
You're pulling the wrong fuse. The main one is a 20A one in the glove box (bottom row, 2 in from right iirc for a uk model - check the fuse diagram). The one in the boot is for the telestart module.
You are meant to pull it out with the engine running, and replace it after 10 seconds as per section 5 of this guide (works for me)
http://www.techwebasto.com/heater_main/ ... 63378A.pdf
or this way (not really applicable to us though)
http://www.raini.ch/files/webasto_Therm ... 20Tree.pdf
or THE BMW WAY

Heater "Lock Out"
If the heater will not respond at all it may be "Locked out", this can happen once a defect code is stored and as a result of under voltage or lack of fuel
- The heater can be unlocked using the service function - Service functions > Body > Auxiliary Heater > Reset Malfunction Lock as per the bmw service guide
- If this does not work, disconnect the 6 pin connector from the Webasto heater for 30 seconds.
Note:
The Webasto heater may appear tempermental if activating directly with a 12-volt supplyas described on page 14. FC 0E, K-Bus Malfunction can be stored numerous times. It may be necessary to reset the malfunction lock and then disconnect the main power supply to the heater using the 6-pin connector at the Webasto.

Re: More Webo
X5 ALN - thanks :xmaswink: I did not remove the wrong fuse, I just wrote wrong - It`s fuse 59 - 20 Amp`s!
Since laste time it have started again, and it have stopped again. As soon as i reach 20 litres, it`s start`s to trouble.
I`m not 100% sure, but i think it`s the low fuel level that is the problems. It works 100% when there is more than 20 liters of diesel in the tank.
Now it is in lockdown status again >:(. I have to figure out wich reaset method is the rigth. And then be a Fox on the fule gauge and not let it go belowe 20 litres in the winter season

Well, it seems to find It's way out of lockdown after refuling. With 20 liters of diesel, or more, the Webo works. But when using the T91 I always have to make two start attemps, and it allways respond on the second try.
Have I, managed to change the setting on the Webo so it needs +12v on PIN1 two times in a row to fire up...
I have checked the time, and waited for more than 30 sec., and it starts imideatley on the second try >:(

Re: More Webo
good news is that it works.. if you want to find out.. i guess - press once on the T91 and check whether there's +12v on Pin 1. press T91 again and check pin 1 again.
that will tell you whether the T91 is not talking the first time around or whether your webo is not listening..

Re: More Webo
Willy do! But it seems to be the same problem with the timer. Sometimes the Webo starts via the timer and some times not. Sometimes starts on first try with the T91, but always on the second try .
A tought as crossed my mind; I have put the reciver in the trunk next some controll unit. Could this interfer with the dialouge with the Webo? And could this also be the reason that the height warning lights comes an goes?
The transmitter and the reciver comunicate, so the reciver is also transmitting when activation.
