Roads

Post by Riggie » Mon Dec 24, 2012 9:29 pm

Just had a few days in France, drove from Calais down to Disney. The French m'ways are an absolute delight to drive on, so smooth, particularly with the E53 sport hard suspension and 20 inch wheels !

Got out of the tunnel on to the M20 at Folkestone and it really is a disgrace, like a patchwork quilt and back to bouncing.

I really am considering getting a set of 19s, does it really make much difference compared to 20s?

Yes it does, enough for me to order my E70 with the 19" wheels (M sport). The 20" were just too uncomfortable and bouncy on the test run.

I did not notice any difference with my 18" winter wheels though.

Roads

I frequently drive through Europe and on the whole they make our roads look amateur.....the M25 in the south is particularly awful!

Unlike PVR, I'm man enough to enjoy 20's on our X!

city roads are worse - with the never ending roadworks and rarely ever seeing a full tarmac refresh

Im sure some member would do you a swap.
I agree that the ride can be harsh on 19's with thesports suspension. 20's are even more crashy on uneven roads.
How you guys on 20" run flats keep your fillings in I dont know :'( :'( :'(
I hated the run flats on 40 profiles on the E60. It puts me off buying an E70 and having to change the tyres straight away, I will be looking for one with bald tyres !!!! so I  can fit proper tyres. do they have a wheel well to carry a spare or not ??

It is possible to fit a spacer saver in the boot area under the floor and the spacer saver. Including jack, brace etc. is available from BMW part no. 36 11 0 007 376.  This option fits both the E70 and E71 so long as the E70 doesn't have the seven seat option.
