Definately agree with Don here. Big thanks to all so far!
Iv been quoted 2hrs labour per drive shaft. which will work out at £200 plus vat = £240 for labour. plus the drive shafts is £300
Otherwise for just the CV kit which is £50 labour is £145 plus vat = £235 all in approx.

Ah, that rules NCB Autokraft out then. Never mind, worth a try!
Re: Had to happen during Christmas!
Imy - talk at 5 but I spoke to Jason today for you. My suspicions were correct, you never spoke to him direct but his son. His son never met you at the Meet...
Jason just said call him direct so he can advise you better and give you a forum price. He's on 07831103030.

Cheers Sanj, iv give u a call at 5. but yeah i spoke with Dom. In terms of costing il give Jason a call and see what we can do having said that I dont think changing drive shafts is a specialist job (please correct me if im wrong) and any decent mechanic should be able to do it without hassle rather than a specialist indy?
Shad - those look great value especially with the warranty and your own experience. i may just give it a go although finding someone to fit them this time of yr will be hard pressed.

Re: Had to happen during Christmas!
Absolutely right Imy, not specialist. Needs brute force and then gentle persuasion. I wanted him to do mine because I felt comfortable trusting my car to him. Plus I've known him for years, so the service and price is favourable.
But call him and get that best price.

Have you used them- and if so any good?
I have in the past used the place on Runcorn Road in Balsall Heath. A bit pricey I found and slow..

Had to happen during Christmas!
NCB have been around years mate. I've been using them for about 10 years now. Noel is main man there and has over 20 years BMW experience. You should give them a call next time. Depending on where you live, they will pick up too. Only people I let drive my car!
Had to happen during Christmas!
Thanks. When warranty runs out may look at them.

List is as follows
Front tca arms x2
Wishbone arms x2
Cv joint x1
Cv gators x2
Anti roll drop links x1
I'm going to have to prioritise by urgency so the cv joint is going to be done on Thursday.
£1400 was quoted by Jason's garage all in price. I don't actually own a credit card... Never needed one. I'm hoping the work can be broken down over 3 months as I drive maybe 30 miles a week I'm hoping it will work out!
[/quote]
I have had shuddery brakes as you describe for 6 months, but no one could find the fault. Just recently it got rapidly worse - The main fault turned out to be the o/s/f rear arm ball joint - it was extremely worn, yet should no signs of being broke a few months ago.
Due to the high mileage, and normally thre front arms cause brake shudder I fitted
2 front arms
2 rear arms
2 ball joints
2 drop links
Febi Bilstein part number 33372 which I got VERY cheap as I work for a motor factor. Febi is OE parts on some manufacturers. Not sure about BMW, but Audi use them. The parts in the box often have a ground of patch where the audi number has been removed. The kit you need is on ebay quite cheap
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suspension-Ki ... 5d37f18125
Took 2 1/2 hours of free labour, including a cup of tea, f*cking around with a rounded ball joint bolt, then heating the ball joints and knocking them down the way with an air chisel to get them out (if you're changing the CV joint you'll have better access to it), and removing the n/s/f air duct that houses the air temperature sensor (It is in the way of removing the bolt for the front arm). Cracked the grille mesh doing this as there is a plastic rivet holding it to the bumper.
What a difference it made to the car (103000 miles on it), no knocks or shuddery brakes from the front any more)
Can't imagine cv joints would be that hard to do, as you're stripping everything anyway.
Doing all the rear bushes next.

and the subframe bushes
Guess I'm fortunate that my best mate is a mechanic, my homers are free (but I donate) and my parts are always cheap.

Re: Had to happen during Christmas!
Hell yeah your lucky!
Anyways had a chat with Alan (manager at bw) and we've prioritised doing the drive shafts. Il buy the ones on shadracks recommendation and they will be fitted far cheaper than any local garage and by the team at bw.
Big up to sanj for looking after me as per usual and everyone else for their excellent and comforting advice!

Re: Had to happen during Christmas!
Had my driveshafts done today at Jason's. Noticed the difference in drive immediately. Also they were in disbelief over the quality of the driveshafts at the price I paid for them. Jason even requested the details as he said he would use them, so shout out to shad for that one. So that's cv gators and joints done, on to the next item on the list next month
